Skye's POV
-I walk down to the cargo hold to find Ward beating the shit out of the punching bag. "You know your late." He says, stopping and turning to look at me.
"I'm tired from the morning's workout. I thought I was joining S.H.I.E.L.D, not 24 hour fitness." I groan. I don't actually mind beating up the punching bag or sparing, but strength trainings the worst.
"It's called relative strength training, starting with the basics. And next time, you do 15 push-ups for every minute you're late." Ward announces, I groan again, but actually think it's fair. At the Red Room you got fifteen punches to the face, push-ups I can do.
"Fine, Mr. Fun machine. Better than pull-ups. I don't ever want to do another pull-up again." I tell him, actually meaning it this time. I swear they don't make the cadets at the Academy go through all this.
"You find yourself hanging off the edge of a building 20 stories up, you're gonna want to do at least one." Ward smirks and I want to yell at him that I know and that hanging off a 20 story building isn't even that scary, but he'd probably think I'm crazy. Because even Mama doesn't like hanging off buildings. And she's THE Black Widow.
"Stand here. Jab cross, like this. 10 minutes." Ward tells me and I start to pathetically punch the bag. "You know the hardest part about boxing?" No, I don't, I don't do boxing often, I do martial arts. But I suppose I could learn something new... and learn his fighting style so it's easier to take him down if need be.
"Getting punched in the face?" I ask jokingly.
"Keeping your hands up." Ward replies. I'm pretty sure he's rolling his eyes but I really couldn't care less.
"Why do I even have to do this? I'm sure Fitzsimmons' supervising officer didn't make them do all this muscle stuff." I question after a beat, playing my part as 'Skye the Hacker' perfectly.
"You said you wanted to be a field Agent, like May. Well, if you'd like to switch disciplines..." Ward looks over to Simmons, whose a few feet away in the lab. "Hey, Simmons. What did your S.O. give you guys for morning drills?"
"Oh, atomistic attribute drills. Yeah, we'd name the mechanical, chemical, thermal-" Simmons starts, stopping as Fitz joins in.
"Electrical properties of materials." He smiles, going back to one of his inventions.
"Okay, okay. They made your point." I say, rolling my eyes before continuing to punch the punching bag as weakly as I can. It's pathetic and pointless, I know, but this is undercover.
"There will come a moment when you have to commit to this or bail." Ward tells me, walking over to the punching bag and holding it as I punch. "Every field Agent has a defining moment. Ask Coulson or May. When you have to make the hard call to either dedicate yourself to this or to curl up in a ball and run."
"How can you run if you're curled up in a ball?" I ask, raising my eyebrows at him.
"It's my job as your S.O. to make sure you don't die before then. Come on." Ward says, obvious boredom and annoyance in his voice. Jeez dose he even know what fun is!?
"So what was yours, Agent Ward?" I ask, trying to get more information out of him. I make my tone as flirty as possible without it being too suspicious so that he might confide in me as someone he trusts about whatever secret he's keeping. It makes me sick, Maria deserves better but she's my soulmate and if we're destined to be together, well...
