May's POV

"Looks like Skye might end up as more than just a consultant, despite our reservations. She could turn into a solid asset... with some serious work." Ward tells me as we watch my daughter and my best friend talk about god knows what. I swear that girl will talk about anything with anyone.

"Well, if she wants to be a field agent, she'll need a supervising officer -- someone disciplined, someone good." I say, really not wanting Ward to become her new SO, but knowing it was necessary. I've seen him giving her heart eyes and Maria death glares at every opportunity he can. I assume they, or at least Skye, have too. Damn Fury for making her do this.

"All right. I'll do it." Ward mutters, pausing for a moment before speaking again. "Just to clarify, you were, uh, talking about me, right?"

I don't get the chance to say anything else as Fitzsimmons come rushing down the stairs, carrying a large cooler of, what I assume, is beer. "We blew up a plane." Fitz says in amazement.

"I had a new experience." Simmons replies.

"Eat that, Professor Vaughn."

"You had a new experience. But it was new for all of us."

"They're happy." I tell Ward, glad to see my daughters new friends chatting happily with each other. If Skye considered them friends, then Nat and I do too. Just like when she befriended Sharon and then met Maria only yesterday. I can see the two of them are already close. The only thing I do worry about though is Ward, if he so much as touches a hair on her head he's as good as dead.

"Hey, come on. You guys don't want to miss this." Fitz tells us, leading us over to the edge of the ramp, where Nat is already waiting. I snuggle into her side, happily leaning my head on her shoulder.

I sense, more than hear Skye and Maria approach as Maria footsteps are still a little too loud and I've been around Skye long enough to know when she's in the room. "So, it'll take about 180 days to reach the sun. Now, yes, of course, it would have been faster if they'd used hydrogen-fueled APUs, but they're having fun." Fitz says, almost giddily.

"How many of those have you guys had?" Skye asks, leaning against Maria, much like I was doing with Nat, but standing up.

"Sk-- Skye. It's important when in the field to unwind from time to time." Simmons says as if she's been doing this her whole life and not just two days. I hear Nat laugh beside me and can't help the smile that pulls at my lips.

"Yeah, yeah, especially after a hard day of everyone almost dying." Fitz agrees, again speaking like he'd been doing this his entire life.

"Which doesn't happen every day, right? It's an anomaly -- an irregularity." Simmons asks, suddenly sounding a little unsure of herself. Coulson walks up a moment later and smiles at the sight of all of us happily waiting for the 0-8-4 to be sent into the sun. "Not...the norm."

"Speaking of 'not the norm', whose idea was it to blow a hole in the plane?" He asks, a light smile gracing his lips, letting us all know that it didn't really bother him too much.

"May said that the doors were tied to the pressurization, so I thought --" I flinch as she uses my real name, not calling me Mom like she's done for the last three years. I also feel Nat stiffen beside me, probably thinking the same thing.
