Baji would train at mikey’s grandfather’s dojo and his mom would send his sister to get him because, instead of going straight home he would stay at mikey’s place or go to the playground, despite knowing he’s supposed to go home and may get grounded if he didn’t.
That’s where most of their interactions would be, at the sano residence, and she was also emma’s best friend so it was inevitable to not see mikey.
The crush slowly started growing when emma talked about her during dinner time, telling them about her day with her and all the fun games they played. As they all listened in on her tales, mikey, would ask to hangout with them, shockingly. Usually he would just barge in like nobody’s business.
Now mikey’s playing dolls, teaparty, dress up and other games with them, sometimes even baji would join in when mikey’s not in the mood to play with baji on the playground or rough around. A lot of times there would be arguments about who gets what doll because uk… kids. A certain doll’s cooler than the another and it would always be baji and mikey arguing because emma and y/n had their go-to dolls.
All four of them would sometimes go around with shinichiro, mikey offering to hold her hand when that happened. His hand would always have a firm yet gentle grip on hers. Baji never paid much attention to it, too caught up arguing with emma and shinichiro until it’s time to go home and he sees mikey caress the back of her hand with his thumb before letting it go.

Anyways, growing up, the crush never left him, it just grew. When she talked and someone interrupted her, he would shut them up. “She wasn’t finished. Go on y/n.” He would always be paying attention to her in those type of situations. No one could talk over her or forget what she said when he’s around.
They forgot her idea for something? “What about y/n’s?” Knowing they never heard anything she said. Even if she were to interject, mikey does it before she could. She never went home alone, mikey offering to take her home on his bike or she’d go with emma.
Whenever they had sleepovers at the sano house, mikey would somehow always end up falling asleep on her whether it be on her lap, shoulder or his chest against her back.
Would find himself at her place when he’s sleepy or when he wasn’t in the best mood, finding out that being near her was somewhat calming to him. They were basically a couple at that point, they just never said anything about it aloud.
Obviously he still said things that made her mad or hit him in some way.
