Jeff took a deep breath catching the attention of her best friends. Nandini and Aryaman looked at her confused when Jeff sat attentively looking at them intensely.
"So, tell me, which of you broke my promise of never fighting under this majestic tree bearing the cravings of our friendship; protecting it, growing with it?"
Nandini and Aryaman both stared at her, raised an eyebrow and both proceeded to put on a blank look.
"It's creepy how you do that," Jeff made a face," and Navya thinks you two will strangle each other if left alone for a second."
"I might," Nandini stated.
"Don't ever doubt Navya," Aryaman said at the same time.
"You know what I think?" Jeff said, " I think you both are twisted and tired. And you both just want to scream at each other. But as far as I know the two of you you will already have done that."
When Nandini tried to interrupt, Jeff glared at her, "So, now the next step should be sitting like grown-ups and talking about it and then cry and laugh and behave like the barbarians that you two are."
"We do not act like barbarians," Aryaman stated fiercely.
Jeff continued as if Arya haven't interrupted her, "But again I know you guys. You are stubborn, spiteful, arrogant, and self egoistic ..." Jeff cleared her throat.
" So, we take baby steps. And maybe not today or tomorrow but we will eventually reach the level we were when we were 11 and I had to leave."
Jeff waited for both of them to speak as she looked from one to another but they both just stared at her making her feel like an idiot.
Aryaman was staring at her but she could see the slight twitch of his lips and Nandini was staring at her with her eyes wide. They were getting watery and Jeff knew she was not blinking. That only happened when she was trying not to laugh.
Jeff pouted, "I tried okay. It was so hard to prepare a perfect motivational speech with some reprimanding and...." before she could continue the duo burst out laughing.
Aryaman was at least trying to hide his laughter behind his hands but Nandini was having no such qualms. She was laughing and laughing.
"I cannot..." Nandini tried to speak.
"You even prepared what to say when we laugh." Aryaman accused though it was full of humor what with him laughing
"So? You didn't really expect me to be all mature and voice of reason," Jeff said.
"And these all big words?" Nandini still had the shine in her eyes but had stopped laughing at least.
"Learned them over the years as you guys were not there to be that for me," Jeff replied.
"We were always there," Aryaman said with conviction. Nandini nodded along.
"No, you were not." Jeff stated," like I was not there for you two. You may think you know all about my life after we left from here but you know only that what Zubin knows and that is not even half of it like I don't know the half of it."
