It was not an uncommon occurrence for Ivy and Rafe to find themselves in the arms of the other since the night after the party. They had decided on a purely physical relationship but still began to feel rather territorial over one another. When Ivy mentioned her friends Rafe seemed to become irritated and no longer in the mood to be in her company, likewise whenever Ava's contact picture flashed on Rafe's phone. One day, while Ivy was getting redressed Rafe, fought the urge to ask her a question, eventually caving.
"What are you doing later?" he asked
"Going out on John B's boat, why?"
His expression turned sour "That thing is barely a boat. If you want to see a boat I'll take you out on ours"
"We have one just like yours" she smiled wickedly
"Why don't you take the day off from slumming it and we go out and have some real fun?"
"I think we've had enough 'fun' today" she smirked tying her halter top around her neck
Rafe propped himself up on his elbows "I don't mean that. Like do you want to hang out with me tonight?"
Ivy's face froze in position "No way Cameron, we made a deal. We hook up, we go back to ignoring each other, no catching feelings"
"We can be friends and not catch feelings" he mumbled
"You think I want to be your friend? You are the last person I want to be my friend" she laughed slipping on her Jordans
He rolled his eyes and lay back down on the bed defeated, Ivy noticed and chewed at her lip for a moment, feeling slightly guilty
"Why do you want to hang out with me so much?" she asked crossing her arms over her body
"You're not as bad as I thought. Come on, one night, if you hate it we'll just go back to hooking up and nothing else" he said
"I'm going to hate it" she insisted
"We'll see" he shrugged "Leave at 8?"
Ivy nodded as she exited his bedroom, looking around her to make sure there was nobody around to see her creeping around the house.
When 8 o'clock rolled around the girl left her home and headed for Rafe's car, she hadn't dressed up or made an effort, she was hoping that this would be quick and painless and she still had time to meet up with the Pogues afterwards. Rafe announced that they were going to the drive-in theatre and Ivy rolled her eyes, comparing him to Danny from grease with a little more hair gel. In the back Rafe had a bag of assorted candies and snacks for them, Ivy greedily grabbed it and shoved a Reese's peanut butter cup in her mouth.
"Animal" Rafe muttered under his breath
"I heard that dipshit. Drive now so this ends faster" she said motioning with her hands for him to hurry along
When they arrived at the drive-in Rafe picked a spot near some trees so it wouldn't be so noticeable if anyone happened to be there at the same time as them but that they would still be able to watch the movie. They had gone to see a showing of Pulp Fiction much to Ivy's dismay.
"Of course you like Pulp Fiction" she rolled her eyes
"Everyone likes Pulp Fiction" he announced, biting into a twizzler
"Yes but it's definitely in your top 3 movies, let me guess the other 2 are The Wolf of Wall Street and Fight Club?" she sneered
Rafe bit back a smile "Okay you got two out of three. My last favourite movie is a guilty pleasure so don't laugh alright?" Ivy pretended to zip her lips shut and throw away the key before Rafe spoke again "Dirty Dancing"
"You do not like dirty dancing" Ivy scoffed
"I do!" he laughed
"Liar, you probably only tell girls that to seem like you have a heart" she shook her head
"I swear! I used to watch it with my mom all the time when I was little, she used to get me and Sarah to do the lift thing" he said using his hands to mimic it his face suddenly changing slightly, the topic of his mother being a sore spot that he rarely brought up
Ivy nodded sweetly before turning her attention to the movie, she couldn't help but feel Rafe looking in her direction now and then but whenever she glanced over his eyes turned back to the screen, they spent the next two hours in near silence, laughing now and again at what was on the screen or grimacing at the more brutal bits. It was beginning to get dark when Rafe spoke up again, asking if he could take Ivy for something to eat, she was starving and hopped up on sugar so she agreed, her stomach making a funny noise at the mention of food. They drove around town and stopped at the burger place The Pogue's had gone to after the party and whilst they were in the drive-through waiting for their food Ava's contact information flashed on Rafe's phone, the pair sat in silence for a moment before Ivy nodded toward it, signalling for Rafe to pick it up. In doing so she could hear very faintly the conversation on the other side of the phone, she was asking Rafe to come over to her house. Ivy felt a green-eyed monster take over her, she no longer felt hungry and she no longer wanted to be in the car with him. Deciding to hang out with him had been a mistake. Rafe mumbled something about seeing her later and hung up. There was no longer a friendly air around them in the car, it had turned tense all of a sudden and while they waited for their food Ivy stared at her phone in hopes she wouldn't be bothered by him. She was wrong, so much for wishful thinking.
"Would you be pissed if I go?" he asked
"No? We're not dating, I told you I don't even want to be your friend" Ivy said forcing a laugh
"So you didn't have a good time tonight?" he asked, knowing it was a lie
"Nope" she shook her head
"Okay then. I'll take you home" he nodded
"Great thanks" she replied bluntly
After Ivy had returned home she had texted Sarah to let the group know she was coming over and she had to deal with some family stuff. She grabbed a small box that was sitting on the mantelpiece just under the new artwork that her mother had bought and just put up, jumped into her car and sped toward the other side of the island, her music blaring as a way to release some of her anger, she did not know why she was so jealous about Ava. She knew she had no true feelings for Rafe, but she had never been one for sharing, as she neared the end of figure eight she made a turn down to the street where Rafe's car sat outside and clocked Ava's Lexus, she knew it was hers because she had been given it for her seventeenth when her and Ivy had been friends and Ivy had been so jealous that she made her dad go out the next day and buy her a better car. The perks of being rich [Side note I fucking wish I had that as a problem lmao I can hardly afford the bus]. Tapping her hands against the steering wheel in frustration Ivy took her keys out of the ignition and grabbed the small box she had taken from her home, opening it up and dumping out some nails and screws, she picked up some thick nails using her hoodie sleeve to cover her hand and creeped out of her car which was parked a good few houses down to avoid any suspicion, she leisurely walked up toward the car and pretended to bend down and tie her lace, tossing a nail in front of one of the back wheels and crouching down to pierce one through the tyre in front of her, the air hissed out of the rubber and Ivy stood up and walked back to her car, the green-eyed monster now feeling rather satisfied with itself.
