The inspiration for this chapter comes from this scene of Rafe
Across the table Ivy and Trevor sat staring at one another, neither speaking, neither of them happy to be there. Ivy had been physically dressed and dragged downstairs by her mother who was all for keeping up appearances. She wore nothing on her face but a scowl, refusing to speak or even acknowledge the presence of her exes family in the room.
"Ivy's not really feeling well tonight" Leo said
"Heatstroke again? You should be more careful in the sun darling" Mary scolded
Ivy sipped at her drink tentatively and clenched her teeth together, wanting nothing more than for this dinner to be over. Trevor who felt the same could hardly bear to be in the same room as his ex-girlfriend, was although almost overnight she had transformed into someone he didn't even recognise, he was almost certain she was now with the boy he had left bloodied in the hallway the last time he was here, but with her silence, he couldn't tell.
When Leo brought up the argument the adults all laughed, chalking it up to teenage drama and assuring that the two of them would be back together in no time, almost as though they weren't sitting at the table listening to every word. Ivy swallowed her pasta, her nerves so shot that it felt like every bite was being forced out of her by a pair of imaginary hands prying open and clamping her mouth for her to eat her food.
The plates clattered together as Alexis collected the finished dishes and the adults had made a silent agreement to leave the two in the room to talk, when Ivy went to get up and exit along with them Mary smiled sweetly as she pulled the doors to the dining room closed. Sighing she turned back on her heels and looked at her former lover at the table, his posture perfect and frozen in place almost as if he were on display at a museum. Instead of sitting beside him, she made her way towards the drinks cabinet, grabbing a bottle of gin and a glass, pouring herself some of the clear liquor and adding a small splash of tonic water.
"Nice to see you're still drinking" Trevor said stiffly
"Live a little" Ivy rolled her eyes
"So, I take it you're seeing that asshole whose nose I broke?"
Ivy smirked menacingly "You didn't break his nose, must not be as strong as you think"
"You didn't answer my question" he chastised
"Phrase it better then" she quipped
"Are you seeing that Cameron boy?" he repeated
She rolled her tongue over her teeth for a moment before answering "No"
"Bullshit" he spat
"You asked. I answered" she smirked
"I want the truth" he demanded
Ivy giggled into her glass "You don't want that"
"So you are seeing him?" Trevor scoffed
"Yeah sure. I see him all the time, he lives next door you know" she teased
"Don't be smart Ivy" he said in a commanding tone
"It's got me this far" she shrugged leaning back into her chair, finishing off the last few drops of her drink
"Why did you want this dinner if you clearly don't want to be here?" he hissed
She laughed "Oh I didn't. My dad planned it, I thought you could gather that from my lack of enthusiasm, I thought military men were supposed to have great observation skills"
Trevor stood up from his place at the table and headed for the door "This was a mistake"
"You're telling me" she mumbled, blowing a kiss to him as he exited the dining room
Trevor grabbed his coat and announced to his parents that they would be leaving much to his parent's dismay, Ivy stood at the door frame watching the scene unfold before her.
"We're just very different people now Leo, I'd like to keep in contact with you if that's alright. Keep you updated on my tours and things, and of course for you to continue doing business with my father" he said, although he seemed dumb Trevor was very switched on, he knew that the relationship between him and Leo would benefit him in his career and that with the two fathers' being friends it would be financially beneficial for both.
"Oh I'm so sorry darling I know you've just been so upset these past few weeks" Mary cooed, babying her youngest son
Ivy rolled her eyes and went to return to the drinks cart when her father called her over to say goodbye to the Van Der Lins. She put on her fakest smile and walked over to them to bid them farewell at the front door. They stood out on the front porch and exchanged quick hugs, when it came time for Trevor and Ivy to say goodbye the hug lingered for a moment, which would've been seen as a sweet embrace had it been for the words Trevor whispered in Ivy's ears as he leaned down.
"I'll find out everything sooner or later slut" he hissed making Ivy's blood run cold, she knew there wasn't much he could've done but the thought of a bulked-up muscle man with a jealous streak worse than her and arms training finding out about her and Rafe made her feel queasy, knowing it would end in more than a black eye for Rafe.
Across the road Rafe was just returning from being left in the marshlands, he had stopped by Barry's and gotten high to deal with his anger toward Ivy, anger that was now resurfacing as he watched her embrace the man who had swung a punch at him just a few weeks prior. He sucked his teeth and let out a laugh. He knew that there was more to the random hookups he and Ivy were having and now seeing this in his wired state he couldn't contain his rage, he stalked up to the Rutherford home.
Covered in dirt and high out of his mind he walked up the driveway, stopping just as the two families turned to look at him in clear disdain.
"Travis is it? Looking dapper. Took her back I see, a silly mistake pal. She's been with me ever since you decided to call it quits" he beamed, his heart beating in his chest rapidly
Ivy felt everything come crashing down around her as Trevor's whole body tensed beside her and the adults on the front porch gasped at Rafe's words. Leo's jaw tensed as he looked back and forth between his daughter and the boy in front of her, Ivy could feel all eyes on her, her head beginning to spin.
"Oh yeah and Mr and Mrs Rutherford? You should know that when your daughter's not at home or in my bed she's been running around the cut with pogues. But you guys knew that right? Daddy's little girl never lies" he smiled as though he hadn't just delivered not one but two bombshells
Trevor balled his fists and Rafe noticed "You ready for round two blondie? Go ahead, first hits free" he said opening his arms, welcoming the hurt he would soon be feeling.
Rafe sidestepped the first punch Trevor threw and laughed as he stumbled. What he didn't expect was the blow from the other side of him that came from none other than Ivy, he looked at her in shock for a moment wiping the small amount of blood away from the corner of his mouth, her eyes filled with tears and betrayal before Leo grabbed him by the collar and dragged him off the property toward Tanneyhill.
Once removed from the property the Van Der Lin's looked to Ivy in disgust, Trevor scowled in her direction, spitting at her feet before he got in their car and pulled away leaving Ivy and her mother standing at the front porch, not talking to one another, the air still thick with tension and aggression. Ivy let the tears fall freely as she processed what had just happened before her mother grabbed her arm in a less than friendly manner and pulled her into the house before the house became a free show for the neighbours.
