(I've decided to keep things in the same Au)

Kisame sat at the edge of the large lake, his eyes downcast and sad.  Boss and Konan, Deidara and Tobi, all of which had been brave enough to express their love, but he still couldn't do it, and it pained him. His heart ached for his raven-haired genius partner, but he couldn't find the words to tell him just how much he loved him. He ran his fingers through his hair, a subconscious action in an attempt to calm himself. He wanted to be able to run his fingers through Itachi's black hair, to hold him in his arms, yet he was scared to ruin their blissful friendship. He was a confident man, but the thought of him made his heart flutter, his stomach do flips. He gripped Samehada by the handle and got up off the rocks surrounding the lake, slowly trudging back to base.

Itachi had carefully watched Kisame. He had been acting off lately and it was annoying him that he didn't know why. He had seemed so nervous and distracted. He often caught Kisame staring at him, their eyes meeting when he noticed. He had been paying more attention to him, and being overly caring. It confused the raven haired man. But not as much as the way his heart fluttered around Kisame. Itachi had loved Izumi, yet he felt something towards Kisame. Was this perhaps love? For now, Itachi would simply observe the taller man, to see if he could figure out how he felt about him.

Kisame heard a rustle in the trees as he walked to base, and prepared Samehada to fight. However his dark-haired crush appeared from the trees and joined him on the path. "Hi, Itachi." the taller man greeted  him. Itachi nodded and gave Kisame a close-eyed smile. Kisame felt his heart flutter, but he pulled himself together and mustered up all his courage. "Would you like to go get Dango with me, Itachi?" Itachi answered at lightning speed "Yeah!" Kisame smiled but then Itachi asked "As in , like a date?" Kisame scratched his neck awkwardly and turned away to hide the vivid blush creeping onto his face. The pair veered of their original path, going towards the Dango shop.

Itachi walked silently, however, you could sense the air of joy emanating off him. He patiently listened as Kisame talked on about his day, and what he wanted to do soon. (Little did Itachi know, he was on that list.) The time flew as the sun set on the pair, the only sounds being the crunch of their feet on gravel, and the faint sound of bird song. They turned a corner and were hit with a sweet, cake like smell. They walked to a small, family owned Dango shop, where the Akatsuki generally visited. The two joyfully ordered their Dango, and sat while and older lady cooked their food. They continued to talk about their days, and what the rest of the group had been up too. Itachi told Kisame about how Zetsu let Sasori chop down one of his trees to repair his puppets, and Kisame told Itachi about how Tobi walked in on Boss and Konan ballroom dancing in Boss's office. The two laughed and told jokes happily.

The lovely girl from the counter came up to them and gave them their food, but not before saying "You guys are such a sweet couple!" With that remark, she skipped off. The pair turned bright red, though Kisame broke through the silence with a chuckle. Itachi smiled at the taller man's laugh, it made his heart melt. The two ate their food, continuing to chat. Once finished, they tipped the shop's workers and left back for base. Kisame wrapped his arm around Itachi's shoulder, his stomach filled to the brim with fluttering butterflies. Itachi simply relaxed and they continued walking. Kisame took his arm off from around the shorter mans shoulders as they neared base, and they walked in, heading up to Kisame's room. In there, they sat on a black couch and began to watch comedy skits.

Itachi slowly drifted into sleep, his eyes fluttered shut, and he felt himself get pulled onto Kisame's chest. He listened to the older man's heart beat, felt his chest rise and fall. His heart fluttered, and he felt content. And as he fell asleep, he thought, "Yes, this is love."
