"Dad?" The short girl says as she walks down the stairs, bat in hand, due to the loud crash that could be heard from miles away. Not that anyone would hear because the family, which consisted of a father and his lonesome daughter, lived far from any neighbors or the city.

The mother died years prior in a school shooting. Most people at the school were happy about it. She was a rotten bitch to the school children. On her own, though, she was a good mom. The only time she wasn't good to her family was when she would drink. Her drink of choice? Absinthe. She loved it so much, it's what she named her only daughter.

The girl continued down the stairs to see the beginning of a blood trail. "Oh my God." She gasps and covers her mouth as the tears begin to fall. She begins to see her father's arms on the floor, a masked man behind him. Her dad, whose name is Stephen, noticed his daughter walking down the stairs. He mouthed a few words to her, "I love you, Absinthe," as he was dragged out of the door of their Washington home.

A scream is all that the aunt of Absinthe Briar Addams heard from her niece's new bedroom. "ABI?" The aunt of the traumatized girl runs up the stairs of her Victorian-style house. The wood of the steps creaked with a crackling noise.

When she arrived at the sixteen-year-old's freshly decorated room, she saw her deceased older brother's daughter sitting up in the queen bed that she had gotten recently, trying to catch her breath.

"My darling Abi, are you okay?" The aunt hugs the stressed child.

"Yeah, yes. I'm okay Aunt Calista. " The girl, who prefers to be called Abi, told her worried aunt as she hugged her tighter.

"So what are you up to today? Your first day of 12th grade! " Aunt Calista exclaims, proud of her smart niece.

You see, Absinthe just turned sixteen despite being a junior. Everyone was turning seventeen and she had just turned sixteen. She was the smartest person in the whole school at her old school, so they let her skip 10th grade and that skip carried on to her new school.

Absinthe had to change schools because her father was murdered. Aunt Calista took on the responsibility of her when they called. She had dropped everything to get her niece and bring her back to her small town of Woodsboro. Bad things rarely happen here, unless you count the murder of a local woman. She used to go to school in this town but left due to her mom taking a teaching job in Washington. Her dad could go anywhere because he was a well-known author. Abi hadn't made many friends here the first time around, and she wasn't expecting to make many this time around.

When her aunt left the room, Abi got out of bed and used the restroom. She got ready and put on a dark blue velvet tank top, black carpenter pants, and black 2 "platform booties that went an inch up the ankle. She brushed her shoulder-length black hair. When she was ready, she grabbed her backpack and walked downstairs to get some breakfast.

The aunt greeted her properly, "Honey, just so you know, I invited some friends over for dinner tonight. They have a son, Stu. I think he is in your grade. "

"How fun. I'll see you later, Aunt Calista! " Abi said as she ran out of the door with an apple. She got into her blue car and drove herself to Woodsboro High.

(A/N) Okay, so I just wanted to say that the beginning of the book takes place during junior year, the year Maureen Prescott dies. Okay? Okay, great! On with the show! :)
