The Car Accident : my story

We're driving down a  empty paved road surrounded by forest. It's pouring rain and thunder rumbles loudly outside following a bright flash of lightening. My little sister curls up next to me in the car frightened, while i look at the car window .

Excited to go hang out with my friends for the summer after having not seeing them for a whole year. Thunder boomed loudly breaking the peaceful silence of the car sending my terrified sister even closer to me.

My dad leaned his head against the window falling asleep once again, my mom's silent focused on driving through the darkness and rain and probably is just wishing that we were at grandma's house already tucked away in bed.

We all sat in silence for a few minutes thinking of grandma's dinner that's waiting for our arrival and the appeal of a nice warm to sleep in instead of cheap motel beds that we've been sleeping in while traveling to Texas.

A growing feeling of dread twists in my stomach as we continue to drive along the road and i have the unmistakable feeling that something bad is going to happen , i'm sure of it .

Suddenly we turn a corner and we see a set of two bright lights  swerving along the road coming right for our car crashing together then disaster happens.

The sound of the car flipping into the forest rings through my ears as my dads body hits the roof of the car in a loud thud. My mom's body crashes through the wind shield with a sickening crack while i'm being tossed around in the back before slamming my head against the car roof my seat belt giving out

All i could hear was the sound of crashing metal and my little sister is screaming bloody murder as we crashed into the forest.

I passed out as the car finally stopped, unable to keep my eyes open  I blacked out letting the darkness overcome my mind.

Hours later I finally wake up outside the car flung from the broken window surrounded by nothing but the mysterious dark forest and bright stars as my only light with only one thought on my mind "how's my family ?".

I sat up in bed, cold sweat covered my body as I panted heavily calming myself down. I looked across the room to my little sister sleeping peacefully in her bed her arm wrapped around her favorite stuff animal that my dad gave to her for her 3rd birthday.

The night my parents died is still so fresh in my mind, it feels like it was yesterday not 2 years ago.

Jessica just turned 6 this year and she hasn't spoken a word to anyone besides me since the accident. Her therapist says that she's been traumatized and it's going to take time before she talks to people,if she ever does.

I pushed the blankets off of me and walked into the bathroom needing to clear my head after yet another nightmare about that night.

I stripped down and walked into the shower and turned the lever to hot and  i let it steam up the bathroom so that it was like a sauna. I took a deep breath soaking in the silence and hot water clearing my thoughts.

We just got adopted by this rich young newlywed couple from the suburbs whose wife isn't able to get pregnant so they got us. They seem nice but then again they all do, everyone that's taken us in isn't the angels that they say they are .

The only person i can trust is Jessica and that's it. It's my job to make sure that Jess stays out of harms way, I promised my parents i would and i intend to keep that promise to them no matter what it takes.
