"What?"

"The boy stays with us," I felt my blood begin to boil as I processed what the man was saying.

"So you're telling me," I scoffed with sarcasm, "that you not only kidnapped my brother but you're forcing him to stay with you?" I felt my hands itching towards the knife strapped on my thigh.

"Yes." The man showed no hesitation in his answer, almost as if it was completely normal to take children. I glared into his brown eyes for a long moment, breathing deeply.

"Why?" I hissed before walking towards the sink and turning on the facet.

I had been running for two days without very nurturing sustenance. I bent forward and gulped the clear water greedily as I heard the lycan sit back down in his chair.

"We need to save as many pups as we can. The war is dwindling our numbers-"

"So you're keeping him only so you can send him to war?" I whipped around, cutting him off. I saw him clench his jaw in anger from my disrespect.

"I am Beta, and you will do right by respecting me," he growled at me threateningly.

 "Take me to Colton."

We drove for seven hours in his rugged off-road Jeep. We had to stop once to fill up the gas at an abandoned gas station.

 "What happened?" I had asked.

"They were the Pinetum group," he gruffed before walking towards the empty shop.

Their name was fitting as I had looked around and noticed the hundreds of pines in the woods surrounding us. Not a moment later a bag of jerky was flying towards me.

"Eat," was all he said before we had gotten back in the jeep and continued our drive.

Now we drove onto a side road that led further into the forest, and I became nervous at the sudden closeness we were to the trees. I was concerned that jeep wouldn't fit between the small pathway. Another ten minutes in we were greeted by a clearing that looked like a large camp. Filled with people, cabins, trees, bonfires, it was a maze of smaller huts and tents with a large building in the center. The people stared as the lycan and I drove towards the left side of the camp where he had parked the jeep next to a few other vehicles.

"Let's go," he said before hopping out. I followed suit and tried to ignore the blatant stares that were following my every step. We walked for about a minute before a girl who only looked to be about a few years older than me came sprinting towards us. I immediately drew my knife and backed up, preparing for the hit.

I was completely surprised when she ignored me, ran past my tensed stance. Jumping into the lycan's arms, she began yelling "Kaleb!" and began kissing him passionately.

I awkwardly put my knife away as the two continued to swap spit.

After another horribly uncomfortable moment, they broke apart and Kaleb turned to face me with a small smile on his face.

"My mate, Jess," he explained. The pretty brunette smiled at me before waving shyly.

"Hey," she murmured. I didn't respond and looked at Kaleb with impatient eyes.
