Epilogue

Michael squeezed my hand and smiled. "You ready to go home?"

I responded with a huge smile. He held my hand all the way to the car. Once we were back at my moms I felt a little anxious.

"You okay?" He asked

"I-I haven't been back since I moved out. None of my stuff is here..."

"That's okay. Your mom and I will go pick up whatever you need. You won't have to go back if you don't want to."

"It's just" I took my time leading him up to my room. I missed being here. "He still out there and what if-"

"He will never hurt you again Riley, I promise. I'm going to protect you"

And I was confident he would. It's just something inside me kept saying things with Adam were far from over. I opened the door to my room and was shocked to see it looked the same as when I left it.

"Will you take me tomorrow?"

He raised his eyebrow. "You want to go?"

I sat on my bed. It was neatly made. I wanted the room to look decent when I left. I nodded at Michael. "I need to"

"Then I'll take you" His eyes scanned the room. "I can't believe this is the first time I've been in here"

***Next day***

I pushed open the door and stood in the doorway. The first thing I smelled was Adam. His cologne and the faint scent of his strong aftershave. It sent shivers down my spine.

Michael wrapped his arms around me and rested his head on my shoulder. "You don't have to do this, Ri"

I finally stepped forward. "Yes I do."

Everything seemed the same. Same dishes left on the counter from the night everything happened. It looked completely untouched. I led Michael to the master bedroom. The one place I was dreading. I paused with my hand on the doorknob.

"You okay?" Michael asked.

"No"

"Maybe we should go"

"No" I turned the knob slowly and stepped into the cool room.

My eyes first went to the bed. Completely unmade, sheets and pillows thrown. I felt sick when I noticed the bloodstain on the carpet.

"Is this where he-?" Michael said. It was like the words got caught in his throat.

"Yes"

His fists clenched at his sides and his knuckles turned white. I didn't say anything to take away his anger. I had nothing to say.

I found my suitcase in the closet and began packing. I didn't have a lot. Adam wouldn't let me keep much.

I looked over at Michael who was carefully unhanging clothes and folding them as neatly as he possibly could. He was doing a horrible job. "Did your mom ever make you do laundry?" I giggled

"No? Why? Is it that bad?"

I shook my head and kissed his cheek "You're doing great. I'm gonna go grab my socks and stuff from the dresser"

I opened my sock drawer and sighed. I was only allowed to wear white socks. I missed my multi colored mismatched socks. Something I was looking forward to wearing again. I reached my hand in to grab what I could when my hand felt a piece of paper with a note written.

If you're reading this you came back for your things. I want you to know I never meant to hurt you. I promise I will prove my love to you one day. That boy band faggot can't steal you from me. Remember, I know what he did. I know things about him you don't even know. I will kill him if I have to. You can't save him this time. I'll be back for you, Riley. Sooner than you think.

My whole body was shaking. I quickly folded the paper up and shoved it in the pocket of my jacket. "Riley?" Michael's voice said. I heard his footsteps get closer then two arms wrap around my waist. "Ri? You alright?"

I nodded "Yeah, just hungry. Let's get out of here. I have enough stuff for now"

Michael carried my suitcase to the car and I clutched the note from Adam in my hand. It had to be an empty threat. I knew everything about Michael now didn't I? I kept he head down and closed my eyes. The only image in mind as I walked behind the orange haired boy was I will kill him if I have to. You can't save him this time. In Adam's handwriting. I'm once again terrified.
