chapter fourteen.the yule ball is here
🦋✨📘🪄CHRISTMAS WAS HERE. Which also meant that the Yule Ball was. It was nerve-racking. It didn't help that it was all Marietta had talked about. Okay, that was an exaggeration Marietta talked about other things, not just boys and fashion and make-up. She also talked about her opinions on how normally Snape didn't affect her love of potions but recently he'd really been getting on her nerves. She also talked about how she hoped that this competition would help strengthen Britain's relationships abroad as that is always vital in leading a country. But she did also really like talking about boys.
Electra had been in the room when Marietta got Aileen to say that Harry had asked her to the Yule Ball. It seemed Electra and Harry had the same taste in women.
Marietta was absolutely delighted at the prospect that Aileen and Electra were both going with champions. Harry had forgotten to tell Electra that they were going to dance in front of anyone and Electra almost had a panic attack at the thought but she pulled through. It was Marietta who had told her whilst rejoicing, "I knew my faith in you wasn't misplaced Electra," she had exclaimed.
Marietta had continued even when Electra reminded her that it was just because Aileen said no. Marietta didn't care.
Electra spent her Christmas wishing her dad was there, he wasn't attending the Yule Ball unlike Bagman partly because there was too much work for him to do (like look for Bertha Jenkins some more) and cause he thought it would be awkward if he was there, he wanted to make sure they had the best time they could. He had Avery anyway.
Electra and Iris had spent the day together opening presents and eating chocolate. Iris was trying to distract Electra from the fact she was gonna be dancing in front of everyone. And when that didn't work they practised in an empty hallway which ended in a lot of laughing. There was even the moment where Electra reminded Iris that wear dresses or skirts often but Iris reminded her that it wasn't that different and she'd be fine.
At around half four Marietta made her way over to Electra telling her they had to get ready, almost four hours before the hall began. When they got back to the dorm room Marietta, Mandy and Aileen had combined their make-up collections (Marietta's was the larger collection). Electra tries to maintain her composure as Aileen leans in close to do her eye makeup for her. Electra tried to ignore the butterflies fluttering around her stomach.
After trying to convince everyone she could wear her Converse to the ball but failing, Electra was almost ready. Marietta was debating what shoes she should wear with her pink gown, Aileen was fiddling with her collar and Sue was helping Mandy put a finishing touch to her hairstyle which was up out of her face.
Electra slipped on the jewellery Avery had given her for Christmas. A simple black velvet choker that matched the black close-toed block heels she had sent that luckily weren't very high and were surprisingly comfortable for heels. Along with some silver earrings with a row of stars hanging off them. Avery also gave her a necklace that Clara had given Avery for Christmas one year. It was also silver with a thin chain with a butterfly hanging off it. Electra smiled as she held it in her hand before slipping it on.
