22: a formal mess

As Sungchan fixed his dark blue bow matching his dark blue suit, the boy couldn't help but feel regret; he didn't want to break Yeji's heart. But he unknowingly broke his crush's heart in the process.

"Oh honey, look! Our baby is grown up!" Mrs Jung grabbed her husband, who mirrored his wife's proud look. The older couple were aware that both Sungchan and Maya were oblivious, but they wanted their son (and hopefully, future daughter in law,) to figure that out by themselves. It was ultimately Sungchan and Maya's choice to bring themselves together.

"This is the second dance I've been to-" "Still!" His father took out his phone to take pictures, "Cheese!"

"V." Making an awkward smile with a 'V' sign, Sungchan was caught off guard by his father's gasp that followed.

Dashing up the stairs, Mrs Jung swung Maya around.

The girl that stunned the Jung family wore a dark blue strapless dress, with a halter neck and puffy skirt that ended at the bottom of her kneecaps. Golden stars were attached nicely onto the dress, a similar colour to the heels she wore. It was the dress that Sungchan bought for her on Christmas.

Gaze struck and locked onto his crush, Sungchan let out a small "Wow..." slip.

"You don't look like you got dragged out of bed by Jaehyun," Maya snickered, concealing her amazement at Sungchan's look. Besides the dark blue tie, he wore slick black sneakers and had one side of his hair slicked back with gel. As for the older Jung brother that was mentioned, he wasn't present in the house, preoccupied with his girlfriend and two of his friends he planned to pick up.

"You two look like you're matching! Now, before your dates arrive, let's take a few more photos." A few for the Jung parents meant hundreds, the two teenagers showing false grins at the camera until they were interrupted by a knock on the door.

Yeji wore a dark purple maxi dress with straps, a small slit on the side. As for Jaemin, he wore a black tux with a pink tie, except his blazer was tied around his waist.

"Wow! Maya, you're... stunning. And Sungchan, you look great!" Yeji looked amazed, as Jaemin nodded, "I definitely agree."

"Thanks." The two sheepishly smiled, speaking at the same time.

Maya added on, "You two look amazing!"

"Jaemin, sweetie! I haven't seen you in a while, and I'm guessing you're Yeji?" Once the girl nodded, Mrs Jung pushed them in lightly, "Time for more photos, sweeties! Move in closer to your dates."

Why did Maya feel like she was about to cry, all so choked up as she faked a smile?
