Chapter II- What's so bad about a shield?!?

Once we had the palace in our sights I softly patted Cat's head. She quickly understood and landed right in front of the castle gates. "Halt!" A guard shouted at me as Cat quickly shifted back into her usual self. Once the guard saw Cat he seemed a bit panicked. "What cat got your tongue?" Cat snickered as her fluffy red tail wagged.

"My apologies... You both may pass into the palace." The guard stuttered as he stepped aside. Cat eagerly held onto my arm as my face was quick to turn as red as a good berry. Cat and I calmly walked into the castle as we saw Inei and his party lined up. I quickly took my place next to Inei as Cat stood behind me. I felt nervous being in the capital since it was the first time there.

I looked all over the throne room analyzing everything as all sorts of thoughts run through my head. "What if I can't get a weapon? What if I'm not good enough for the weapon? What if I manage to get a weapon but can't use it properly? What if! What if-!" I was about to finish in my mind as Cat softly placed her hands on my shoulders as if she knew I was panicking. "Calm down okay I'm with you here. I'll always be with you wether you become a hero or not." Cat whispered to me as she gave me an encouraging smile.

I took a deep breath to calm myself as the room was quick to fill up with other people. Some of them had strong magical auras far greater then mine. I looked at the people who walked in as some of them joined in the line. A
fairly tall yet slim elf stood to my right as he wore fancy clothing, that only a nobel would wear. I looked down at my fine clothing and pulled my white cloak shut as I lowered my hood more then usual. The elf seemed to have noticed me pulling my hood more as he turned to glance at me.

Before he could open his mouth to say anything he looked at Cat as he analyzed her closely. His gaze almost stuck on her like a bee to a flower. I didn't turn my head to the side but, my eyes sneakily watched him. All of a sudden he looked at me and scuffed. "And why is such a glamorous princess as yourself accompanying a mere peasant?" the elf finally spoke. I felt myself grow mad as Cat suddenly hissed "He's not a peasant... He's my knight and my partner... So back off I'm not interested in you."

The elf grit his teeth and looked forward as I turned to look down the line. The line had a total of seven people counting me and Inei. However a few of them had someone standing behind them. However others stood alone like the elf who stood to my right who seemed to have come alone. "Who are you to be so damn important to that beautiful demi human princess?" The elf hissed at me as Cat cluelessly played around with a small butterfly.

"I'm her knight and also her king once her father steps down. She's already taken by me... Also fun fact pal I'm not a peasant I was raised with the royal family thus I'm also a noble. Just because I don't look or act like a snob like you doesn't mean anything. My nobility doesn't put me above the law. Just as it doesn't put you above it either... " I answered as the elf glared daggers at me.

Suddenly the king entered the throne room as we all knelt down. "Greetings your majesty..." We all said however I didn't even hear a word exit Inei's mouth. He stayed quite so did the armored ginger haired knight. Cat merely did a formal bow as the king smiled noticing all the formal behavior. We all stood up and stayed in silence as we awaited for the king to speak.

The king sat in his throne as he cleared his throat as if he where ready to speak. "I assume you all know why you have been gathered here today." The king began as we all nodded in response. However Inei was yet to even open his mouth which wasn't anything new to me. "Let's cut to the chase..." The king smiled as he did a hand gesture to a maid and a butler. They nodded and quickly rolled out a red cloth made of fine silk on a long table. They then placed six different weapons on the table all fairly apart from one another.

Suddenly, Inei stepped to the front of the line as he faced all of us. He slowly placed his hand on his great sword as he finally began to speak. "This will be the day you all become heroes. The heroes our world needs... Keep in mind that with these weapons comes not only great power...." Inei stopped as he fully drew his great sword Hazirawn. Hazirawn unleashed a immense pulsing aura of dark magic strong enough to make everyone in the room quake in fear. However for some strange reason I wasn't effected at all. Cat on the other hand was terrified as I softly held her to try and ease her fear. "The power comes with great responsibility and sacrifice. Use the power for good... Instead of evil. No matter how powerful you become do not fall into corruption." Inei finished as he slowly put Hazirawn on his back.

The dark aura quickly vanished once Inei put the great sword away, as everyone stopped shivering in fear. "Woah.... I see what he means by great power... But what did he mean by sacrifice?" I questioned in my head as Inei walked and stood beside the table.

A butler held a sheet of paper as he prepared his voice to speak. "Each one of you will be called over to hover your hand over the weapons. The weapon will attach itself to your hand if it chooses you." Inei spoke sounding a bit bored now as he stood with his arms crossed beside the table. "Kazane Sakiko... And Enaki Kaito please come forth." The butler called out as a young women with long pink hair walked over.

Not far behind her walked a fairly young man with long teal her held up in a pony tail. They hovered their hands over each weapon as a large heavy strange looking lance attached it's self to the girls hand. "Seems the storm harbinger has chosen you to be the storm hero miss Sakiko..." The butler smiled as Kazane Sakiko walked back to her spot. Soon enough the young man with teal hair got a trident stuck to his hand as he swung it in the air. "Seems Sea Dragons Cry has chosen you sir Kaito to become the ocean hero. " The maid kindly smiled as Enaki Kaito walked to his spot.

"Hiro Saito and Mayu Shiko" The maid and butler called out as the elf that stood beside me slowly walked up. "Hope you don't get any weapon at all..." he muttered under his breath as I grit my teeth. A fairly strong looking women walked up as her short blond hair softly swayed. They both walked up and touched the weapons almost instantly a long fancy bow attached it's self to the elves back. "The bow of Yggdrasil... " the elf muttered as he smiled at the bow. Hiro Saito walked back to the spot next to me as he gave me a taunting smile.

I softly grit my teeth seeing how the Saito taunted me. The blond haired lady was quick to grab a large heavy war hammer. Everyone was stunned seeing her easily pick up the massive hammer. "Whoa! I got the earth breaker!" Mayu Shiko smiled widely as she walked back to her spot.

"Last but not certainly not least Hoshi Hoshiko and Solrus Ariyon." The maid cheerfully smiled as the butler gestured us over. I looked at Cat a bit nervous as she hugged me tightly. "Don't worry you can do this love." Cat smiled widely as she whispered while hugging me. I couldn't force myself to say anything at all. All I could do was softly smile and hug her back. I let go of Cat and walked over to the table as a tired looking young girl walked up with hair that seemed to mimic the night sky.

I stepped aside and allowed her to go first as she smiled a bit. She put her hand over the weapons as a long katana wrapped in a cloth that mimicked the galaxy attached itself to her. "The blade of Lavistus..." The butler and Hoshi Hoshiko said as the butler added "Lavistus wants you to be the Space hero Ms. Hoshiko."

I walked up to the table and looked at the last weapon. It was golden shield with a yellow diamond in the center. I looked at the shield and without even moving the shield attached it's self to my arm. "The golden Dawn shield has selected you to be the bearer of it's cursed power... And you to be the sun hero Sir Solrus..." The maid spoke with a hint of pity in her voice. "I don't get it why feel pity for me? At home we saw the sun hero as a god! It was any Ardenian kids dream to be the sun hero!" I spoke back to the maid as some of the other heroes snickered while others mumbled.

"I know you six all come from far away lands. So I invite you all to stay here tonight and prepare tomorrow." The king suggested as we all nodded in agreement. Cat quickly hugged me tight as Inei gave me a thumbs up. I felt happy that I didn't let Inei or Cat down although I couldn't control of the shield chose me or not. I sighed as the butler guided me and Cat to a dining hall.
