Jonah had been out of the hospital a few days by then and he had been moving about, even though he had to take things easy.Corbyn and I went around the house collecting all of the drugs and alcohol, flushing it all down the toilet. Jonah wasn't happy because he wanted to keep some hidden away, just in case but I knew all his hiding places.
Jonah and I were headed over to my moms house for her birthday dinner, which I was told was just going to be Jonah, me, my mom and Brent.
I told Jonah he didn't have to come because he wasn't very comfortable around Brent but he said he'd much rather be there with me in case Brent tried something and we both knew he would.
When we pulled up outside the house that just seemed to look more rundown than the time I last saw it, panic seemed to sink in.
"Remember, we went to Hawaii, we had an amazing time, we spent most of it on the beach or in bed" Jonah winked and I rolled my eyes
"Alright pervert, let's go"
Jonah and I got out of the car and I quickly reached into the back seat for the gift. Jonah grabbed my hand and we walked towards the door.
To say I was nervous, was a huge understatement. Jonah and Brent in the same household just seemed like a huge no.
Not even a regular no, it had to be bold and underlined. No.
"Never leave my sight, okay? Don't be anywhere alone with him" Jonah whispered as I rung the doorbell
"Okay, thank you" I smiled up at Jonah as the door swung open
"Ah! My favourite couple is here!" Mom squealed as she pulled me into a hug
"Happy birthday mom" I laughed as she pulled Jonah into a hug next
"Happy birthday, Miss Y/l/n" Jonah smiled as my mom said thank you and motioned us in to the house.
It was always weird going back there, nothing ever changed, Brent was always watching some sport on the tv and my mom was always doing house work when she was not working at the hospital.
"Do you need any help with dinner?" Jonah asked mom as I placed her present down on the counter.
"Such a gentleman! Of course you can help, dear" Mom smiled brightly at Jonah's polite offer.
I took a seat on top to the kitchen counter, keeping myself close to Jonah as he started making a salad to go along with moms chicken.
The three of us got caught up in conversation about Jonah and his line of work and how amazing our trip to Hawaii was.
I did feel bad for lying to my mom about why I left the house so abruptly when I asked her to stay but she couldn't know, I'd never let her know.
Brent was the first man she loved since my father died, I wasn't going to ruin it for her since he treated her so well.
"Ah! There's my favourite kiddo" Brent's voice entered the kitchen, which sent Jonah's head to fly to the right, just to send a glare
"Hi Brent, how are you?" I forced a smile, never letting mom catch on to anything
"Jonah, good to see you" Brent's hand twitched before balling into fists
"Hey man" Jonah chuckled with a shake of his head
"Y/n, can I speak with you-"
"I actually need her help with something, maybe later" Jonah interrupted, not letting anything happen, especially on moms birthday
"Uh- Yeah, maybe later" Brent backed down, clearly not used to someone talking back to him, or maybe he still feared Jonah from what he did the first time they had an encounter.
Brent left the room and the three of us continued conversation until dinner was ready and on the table.
Mom and Brent sat across from each other, leaving Jonah and I to sit across from each other at the small dining room table.
Small talk was made between mom, Jonah and I while Brent stayed silent, throwing annoyed glances at Jonah and I.
Mom tried to bring him into conversations, just to make him feel included but he only answered in shrugs or eye rolls.
As we were finishing up dinner, Jonah's phone started to ring and his face showed pure sorrow
"I'm so sorry, I thought I shut my phone off" He pulled his phone out of his pocket and sighed. "If you'll excuse me, it's our roommate"
Jonah walked towards the living room as he answered the call. My mom squealed as she grabbed my hand.
"He's such a gentleman! I'm so happy you've found someone like him, sweetie"
"Thanks mom" I smiled sweetly at my mother who seemed so proud that I found Jonah, even if she didn't know him fully
"There's an emergency at the house, I'm so sorry, we have to go" Jonah walked back into the dining room and for some reason, I felt my heart drop
"Is everything okay?" My mind raced thinking something happened to Sophia or Corbyn
"Not exactly, I'm so sorry Miss Y/l/n. I promise I'll make it up to you" You could hear the panic arise in Jonah's voice as he collected his things
"It's okay dear, I'm sure we'll get together again soon"
I hugged my mom tightly, not knowing if or when I'd see her again, before Jonah and I left the house in a hurry.
Not a word was said as we got into the car and Jonah started racing back to the house. I knew, whatever it was, couldn't have been good.
"What's going on?"
"Bunny left us a gift"
We made it back to the house in a hurry, to see Sophia packing things into her car.
"Where are you going?" I rushed out of the car, going towards Sophia who was in tears
"Corbyn said it's not safe for us here right now, so we're going to stay at his moms apartment" Sophia wiped her face with the backs of her hands before I pulled her into a hug
"I'm so sorry"
I watched Jonah run into the house so I left Sophia and followed him in. In the living room was a large pallet, full of different types of drugs.
I froze when it all came into sight
"You're fucking kidding" Jonah almost shouted as he held a paper
"What does it say?" Jonah and Corbyn turned to me, looking overly frustrated
"What are we going to do with it?" Corbyn asked as Jonah handed me the paper that said 'Good luck'
"Get Sophia outta here, I'll deal with it tomorrow"
"No offence but the two of you alone, with all these-"
"We're both sober, and I can promise you I'm not going to be taking random drugs that have been dropped off in my living room from someone who wants me dead, if I am going to take any" Jonah huffed, throwing himself down in the couch
"I'm just really worried about you two" Corbyn whispered to me
"It's okay, just get Sophia somewhere safe" I whispered back, patting him on the back.
Corbyn nodded but left the house with hesitation. I sat down beside Jonah, taking his hand in mine, lightly rubbing the back with my thumb.
"What do you think she means by good luck?" I asked in a light whisper
"I don't know, but I know it's not going to be good" Jonah sighed, throwing his head back to lean it on the back of the sofa
"Come on, let's have a nice, relaxing bath and then get to bed. We'll get rid of this in the morning"
"I'm afraid we won't have until morning, we need a plan Y/n, in case something happens to one of us"
