IN A COUNTRY ACROSS THE OCEAN FROM HIS HOME WAS an African-American man, finally getting the bandages taken off his body. In the room with him was five other people, one of which being his best friend. Another was a young genius who was taking care of his wounds, having futuristic-level equipment. There was also two guards at the door of the lab, and the last person was a king.
"Don't you want to tell him you're alive?" Asked the man's best friend, her tone unusually serious.
The man shrugged, but was scolded for doing so as the young girl needed him to stay still. He sighed. "He has enough on his plate," He said to his friend.
"It is not wise to keep a secret like this from your friend," The king said, coming up beside his sister.
The man sighed. Of course he was right... but he had his friend's best interest in mind.
"Glenn... he was crushed when he found out - no pun intended. Hell, so was I. But he never got to find out you're alive," Kiera said to him, trying to make him see reason.
"I know!" Glenn insisted. "But how would I break it to him? I don't even know where he is right now!"
"He's at Avengers Tower," Kiera stated. "I dropped him off there with my new friends."
"Avengers Tower?" Shuri repeated. "Your friend is an Avenger?"
Kiera shrugged. "His boyfriend is."
"Boyfriend?" Glenn asked, eyes wide, shooting upright. This was something Kiera did not tell him.
"Well, they aren't dating, but I swear they're into each other!"
"You are veering off track," T'Challa, king of Wakanda, said, though he was amused. The friendship in front of him... it was refreshing. Ever since he had a building dropped on him, Glenn had been recovering in Wakanda. He was always most excited for Kiera's phone calls once he revealed to her he was alive.
"Yes, and sit back down! I'm not done!" Shuri scolded. Glenn muttered an apology and went back to his original position, not wanting to face the wrath of any Wakandans.
The moment Shuri finished checking on his wounds and determined he was almost completely healed (if you did not count the permanent damage) a rumble sounded from outside. Kiera, Glenn and T'Challa exchanged a look. Then, they rushed to go check it out.
T'Challa was quick to slip into his Black Panther suit and Kiera was quick to ready her staff. Glenn was just kind of handed a gun... which was underwhelming, but what can you do?
When the three got outside to where the commotion was, there was already an army assembled, shields ready as they stared down the barrier protecting them.
T'Challa ordered for the barrier to be opened, but what they found outside was not what anyone expected. Instead of an enemy, there was a crater. And inside that crater, a person. Or rather, an alien.
In actuality, the alien in the crater was not really an alien. Rather, an Asgardian. Just like Thor and Loki, whom those of Earth were familiar with. This one? She was a Valkyrie, as found by the tattoo of her arm. And her name was Brunnhilde.
The dark skinned woman groaned as she pushed herself up, rubbing her head. The reason for her being there was not a good one. Rarely did something good come from Asgardians landing on Earth, usually something about death followed. This time, unfortunately, was no different.
T'Challa stepped forward. "State your business!" He called to her.
She glanced around uncertainly, not knowing where she was. "Thanos..." She said. "He's coming."
Kiera froze. Thanos. She knew that name, but how? And why... why did it strike fear into her heart? Then it hit her. A vision she once had warned her about a mad titan named Thanos. She brushed it off as a weird dream. That was now revealed to be a mistake. Thanos would soon be here and he would not rest until he reached his end goal. Complete balance in the universe.
"Let her in," Kiera said before she could stop herself. She received some curious looks, but she did not care. She ran out towards the front, towards the Valkyrie.
Reluctantly, T'Challa agreed to let the woman in. From there, they learnt about what happened to Asgard - taken over by a woman named Hell. Heimdall sent Brunnhilde down to Earth when Thanos had arrived. Hela herself was no match for him. The universe's last hope was the heroes of Earth, the mightiest defenders. The Avengers, and anyone else they could gather.
Kiera looked at Glenn. It was the two of them, along with T'Challa, Brunnhilde, and the general of the Dora, Okoye around a table. "Is now a good time to contact Robin?" Kiera asked, an eyebrow raised.
Glenn scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah... yeah, I think it's time."
