ROBIN WAS FREE FROM THE HANDCUFFS, but he had bigger problems now. Doctor Strange would not just show up for no reason, especially not with Kiera and two Wakandians, king T'Challa and Okoye. Everyone was gathered in the conference room, ready to take in information.
Okoye placed a hologram machine on the table. T'Challa was the first to talk, however. "Earlier today, a woman crashed outside our borders and warned us of an approaching threat. Thanos," said the king.
"He came for the infinity stones," Strange explained, the hologram in front of the group showing off the six stones in question.
Vision touched the stone in his forehead. Wanda gave him a concerned look.
"The stones are scattered around the universe," Thor stated. "We made sure of that."
"Doesn't matter, he's coming for them anyway," Kiera stated.
"He probably already has some of them," Okoye added.
"The infinity stones are made up of pure celestial energy, born from the creation of the universe," Strange explained. "The power stone, the reality stone, the soul stone, the space stone, the mind stone," he gestured towards Vision, "and the time stone." He opened up his amulet, revealing the green cosmic stone.
"So we what, have to kill him before he gets them all?" Robin inquired. "Easier said than done."
"We only have to stop him," T'Challa said.
"It won't be easy," Okoye stated.
Robin raised an eyebrow. "How is he collecting these, anyway? Won't trying to use them, if they're as old and powerful as you say, destroy him? Does he have a magic glove or something?"
Strange gave him an exasperated look. "It doesn't matter," he said.
"We'll just have to do what it takes to stop him," Steve spoke up.
"How are we going to do that?" Clint inquired, tilting his head in question.
"As a team," Steve replied.
"That's great and all, but it's not a plan," Robin pointed out.
"I hate to agree with Carter," Fury said, "but he's right." He turned to Doctor Strange. "How bad is the threat?" he asked.
Strange, instead of answering, opened a portal. Out came an Asgardian, a Valkyrie. Brunnhilde. "Tell them about Thanos," Strange instructed.
"He destroyed Asgard," she deadpanned, trying not to let her pain at that fact show.
Loki froze, and Thor put a hand on his mouth to stop himself from gasping.
"Able to kill gods," Robin murmured. "That's a pretty big threat. Gaea level." When he received a few confused looks, he decided, since he was no longer hiding, to clarify. "Prime goddess who gave birth to the titans? Tried to destroy the world? Almost killed me?" No response. "It was bad," Robin said in defeat.
Fury let out a breath. "I might know someone who can help," he said.
"Good," Strange said. "We'll need all the help we can get."
So Fury paged his contact while Tony decided to start coming up with a plan. With such short notice, it was not easy. But, with some group brainstorming, they managed to come up with something.
The plan would be simple if Thanos were not a powerful genocidal titan with hundreds of armies at his disposal. Just who they were up against made everyone present in the room fidgety.
Tony suggested splitting up the stones. Destroying them if they had to. "We split up in two groups," the billionaire said. "Then, if anything goes wrong, at least we have people to protect the stones."
Robin sighed. "The flying Tin Can is right," he conceded. "The best chance we have is to destroy those stones so no one, even if we defeat Thanos, can use them."
"Where would we even go to destroy them?" Pietro asked.
"Can we remove the stone from Vision and still have him be himself?" Wanda asked, sending Vision a worried look.
"My sister might be able to help with that," T'Challa said, more so to Wanda and Vision than the rest of the group.
And so, they were split into two groups. The first group, with T'Challa, Wanda, Vision, Okoye, Thor, Steve, Clint, Bruce, Kiera (who was afraid of revealing too much to Robin, so she volunteered) and Brunnhilde making it up, would go to Wakanda. The rest, Robin, Pietro, Loki, Natasha, Blake, Sam, Bucky, Tony and Strange, would have to find somewhere safe. Fury was going to call in Hill, and wait for his contact. Strange opened up a portal and the first group went through, but not before Wanda hugged her brother and Robin.
"I'm glad you're back," she whispered to Robin, giving him one last squeeze before taking Vision's hand and going through the portal.
Now it was just half of them left. For a moment, there was silence. The question was, where would they go? Where was safe enough, and where would they have the power to destroy the time stone in Strange's possession.
There was, of course, the Avengers compound to consider. Tony designed it to be secure, with a lot of advanced technology of his making inside.
Robin knew a few places. There was Camp Half-Blood, of course, but he refused to endanger anyone there with this. There was that cabin in the woods up in Canada he knew of, as well, but the chances of being found there was too high.
Breaking the silence, Tony suggested the compound. There were no objections (though Robin found that Strange looked like he wished to protest but held himself back.)
The next thing anyone knew, they were safe and sound at the Avengers compound. The next question was how to depose of the stone without killing anyone in the general proximity, something that would not be easy. But Tony Stark was not a genius for nothing, and Doctor Strange had much more knowledge on this than anyone else (Hades, Loki knew a thing or two as well.) At this rate, Thanos stood no chance. Or so they all thought.
