Chapter 114 - Fearful Motivations
Brandon's sense of time seemed to stretch as he flinched away from Nates attack and curled protectively around himself. Fear and confusion choking him into terrified silence.
He clenched his teeth and closed his eyes prepared for the fangs to tear into his arms, but a moment later he heard Nate calling out to him. Gentle hands grasped at his shoulders and attempted to turn him around.
"Brandon? Shit! Brandon look at me its okay...I'm not going to let him hurt you!" Ezekiel's brother called. He sounded mortified.
Him who? His Wolf? Is he having problems controlling it?
Brandon unwound his body, his muscles jumpy and tight after being flushed with fear and adrenaline and with hesitant confusion the Druid looked up into Nates silvery glowing eyes and gulped. "Um...Uh Nate what the heck happened?"
Nates glimmering eyes softened and with a frown he pulled back. "Get up Brandon." Was his only response before the weight of his body disappeared quickly and Brandon gasped as he was bodily lifted up to his feet and released so fast that he stumbled backwards. His foot struck something long and thin in the grass, the silver cylinder Nate had been holding before glinted as it rolled between his shoes.
"Whoa there!" Nate chuckled awkwardly as he steadied Brandon with a hand at his side. "You alright? Didn't mean to shake you up that bad..."
Brandon shook his head and dusted at his shirt silently, then reached out and grasped Nates wrist before the Wolf could pull away. "Shake me up!?" Brandon repeated his voice edged with confusion and outrage. "Look at your hand Nate! You've burned it so badly your skin is blistered and...What the Hell? Why the heck did you jump at me like that!?"
Nate sighed as he glanced unconcerned at his hand, the skin broiled and raised and split. Blood leaking from the red raised welts left in his palm from the touch of the silver object that he had been holding before. With a twist Nate freed himself from Brandon and said. "Look it was an accident alright. You startled me....I wasn't thinking straight, and my Wolf reacted before I could catch him...I'm sorry...I'm in control now." Nate paused and tilted his head. "We good?"
Brandon scoffed and gestured to Nate. His heart a flutter with panic everytime he looked at the damage Nate had caused to his hand. Gesturing the apology away the Druid stepped forwards and bent down at the waist, his eyes searching until they came upon the silver in the grass. He reached to pick it up as he replied. "Fine I accept you apology, whatever, it not like you hurt me. Just come on and lets go find Glen or Erin so they can do something about your twisted hand. Oh...and I think it'd be best if I held onto whatever the hell this thing is for now..."
"Hey stop! Don't touch that!" Nate shouted suddenly, the harshness of his words like a rebuke. His tone infused with enough aggression and a snarl to warn Brandon that he was not as "in control" as he professed to be.
Before Brandon could move Nate surged past him, snatching the Silver away from his grasp, and with a rumble he turned his back to Brandon and prowled back towards the pouches steps. Glimmering white eyes glared at him as the Wolf settled back where he had been before and snapped at him sharply. "Stop it...Just go back to whatever you were doing Brandon and leave me be. I need...I want to be left alone....Go away!" Nates normally cherry expression was clouded with tense frustration as he breathed out, looked away and almost as an afterthought he whispered. "Please...? Please just go away..."
Stunned to silence by Nates behavior Brandon ruminated on his choices at that point. One of his biggest and most glaringly obvious one was to run right to Ezekiel or one of the other leopards and tell them about Nates odd behavior. But he was perhaps one of the first to believe that when a person asked to be left alone their desires should be honored.
