ALDRIEN

As I walked down the corridor, memories flooded me; memories starting from when my grandfather first told me of my destiny to the first time I met the weregirl to few minutes ago when I first met my Grandmother, the Princess. So many things had changed in the last two days; and in a week’s time, I wasn’t even sure how much of me would even be alive.

I followed Tritica down corridor after corridor, walking in a dazed fashion, as my reminiscences flowed through, drowning me. One thought kept hitting me over and over again: Why me?

It wasn’t long till I saw the worry upon Sapphira’s face. It looked like she was asking herself the same question. I didn’t ask for any of this but neither did she. In a way, it was my duty as Prince to help the Kingdom. But as a Guardian, she didn’t have to be so deeply messed up in it. And now she was second-in-command in the Neitherian army. I couldn’t even contemplate how much she was going through.

If the prophecy was true and is actually coming to pass, I knew one thing: the Kingdom needed her. Hell, I needed her!

I wrapped my hand around her arm and gently gave it a squeeze.

“You’ll do fine. I just know it.” I whispered before I let her arm go.

She tilted her head towards me and with uncertainty and confusion playing upon her face, she gave me a warm smile.

All we could do was hope now. Hope that everything would be fine.

“This is the library. You’ll find Lord Darion inside.” Tritica said stopping in front of huge mahogany double doors.

“All the best my dear Prince and mi’Lady.” she added with a sad and knowing smile as she walked passed us and left us standing in front of the library doors.

“Together.” I and Sapphira said as we pushed open the doors.

We were greeted by the musty smell of old books and parchment which lined every book shelf as far as the eye could see. Tables were spread out on the floor, all of them covered in fading parchment scrolls. Our eyes came to land on the enormous mahogany table in the center. An old man was pouring over its contents meticulously, the tip of his crooked nose almost touching the parchment in front of him.

He looked up from the scroll as he heard us enter and smiled a wizened smile.

“I see that the time has indeed come. I never thought I’d live long enough to see it.” he wheezed.

With that he summoned two chairs from the corner of the room. Yes, summoned.

“Sit down children. We have much to discuss.” he stated as he lowered himself into another chair.

“You must be Lord Darion. Princess Ismira told us that…the prophecy…you…” Sapphira stuttered beside me as we sat down on the chairs in front of Lord Darion.

“I thought that was obvious by now.” Lord Darion chuckled. “And yes, time has come for the prophecy to be revealed.” he added on a more serious tone.
