Chapter 1

It was a quite evening when Sapphira returned home. She was quite exhausted from being on patrol the whole day. Some odd disturbance in their small town had kept her and her companions on their feet all day. And when I mean feet I mean both pairs considering werepeople use all four limbs.

Sapphira had inherited this particularly abnormal trait from her grandpa. But she was the first girl of her family to express it. Evidently her brothers and cousins were at it already but as I said before she was the first girl.

She was later joined by her best friend and in a small town like hers your best friend is basically your sister twice removed.

To make matters comprehensible the town was not exactly in this world. It did exist on the same planet we call home but rather a parallel world unknown to us. It was a place where you could see a werewolf walking across the street or a fanged and rather pale man with a hungry look on his face as he sights a nearby gaggle of girls. And naturally within than group of girls you are bound to find a sorceress or two and if your lucky even one of those ageless beauties (the ones who’ve died 100 years ago and still look like they’ve turned 18 only yesterday). But it’s wise to stay away from the latter as you’ll probably end up as dinner rather then having dinner with them.

A whole list of creatures is currently unavailable but I’ll be sure to give you a copy when I acquire one.

Now we rivet back to the main story. The so called “odd disturbance” mentioned earlier was the sighting of a queer man on the borders of one of the farms. He wasn’t the only one sighted that week.

Intruder alerts were quite common in that part of town but these sighting didn’t go very well with the town elders. Of course the people counted on the magical borders that the town elders had erected long ago to keep others out of their town but yet they did not entirely feel safe now.

The intruders seemed like they were aware of the existence of the magical border and were possibly informed as to what would happened if they tried to cross it (normal humans are somehow naturally repelled away). The town council had finally decided that they would cross the magical border to snoop around their settlement and hopefully obtain information on their current state. Till then daily patrols had to be followed. And this didn’t make things any easier for Sapphira.

Ever since Sapphira turned into a wereperson, she had always felt special and people regarded her no less. It was like the people around her knew that she was destined for greatness but no one knew whether for better or for worse. And no one of course dared to tell her that.

Daily patrols were never an easy thing. Sleepless nights kept aside; there was always the nagging worry of actually finding something. But somehow the days went by and the day finally dawned when the council elders were to cross the town borders, a feat they hadn’t dared to do for almost a hundred years.
