ROPTA

It was almost time. In a week I’d be the most powerful person in the entire Neither world. But for that to happen, I still had to eliminate the threats. Aldrien. Prince Aldrien. The boy of the prophecy had arrived.

But he’d be nothing without the girl. Sapphira, was her name. She was not a threat to me. I knew the prophecy and I also knew that she would be the one who decides the fate of the Kingdom but she was definitely not a threat to me.

I couldn’t help but smile every time I thought about the weregirl. I looked around my cave in a daze. It was well lit thanks to the shrine I had placed on one corner of the cave. A shrine to the Darkness, the giver of the power within me. Upon that shrine sat a small bowl within which sat the sapphire enveloped by blood; my blood. Sacrifices had to be made.

Behind me, at the entrance to the cave, the leaves rustled. Someone was out there.

I knew who it was. He had returned with the information I required.

“Come in” I called out to the presence who was waiting for permission to enter the cave. I had bewitched the cave well so that no one could ever know its true location. And of course the sapphire had helped too.

“I have what you have requested for, my liege.” the man said bowing low to me.

“And…?” I demanded of him.

I needed to know what was happening inside the castle. I needed to know what the Princess was up to. I had to know what the boy’s next move was going to be. And most of all, I wanted to know more about the girl, Sapphira.

“By this time, Lord Darion would have told them of the prophecy. The boy, the Prince, he is quite determined to destroy you and restore the Kingdom to its previous condition. He is to start battle training tomorrow, sire. And his magical aura…he’s barely learned to control it and yet it shines, more than yours at times. The elders are all backing him and soon he will be ready to face you in battle soon. We must hurry.” the man blurted. He was clearly afraid to even be in my presence, a fact that somewhat amused me.

“Pah! That boy will never stand a chance against me. And certainly not against my army! They are still unaware of my plan.” I scoffed at him.

“But…” the man stammered.

“Quiet! And what about the weregirl?” I questioned with curiosity dripping from my mouth.

“The girl? Ah…Sapphira? She is powerful, sire. There is no question of that. She has been named second-in-command to the Neitherian army. She previously served as a Guardian and she is unmatched in battle amongst them. It is her final decision that will change the course of this war.” the man spilt.

“And how does she…look?” I asked.

“If I may say so, my liege, she is rather a pretty young woman. She has her mother’s red hair. She looks like the younger version of her Grandmother, sire.” the man said smiling.

He was still bowing down before me, not daring to stand up straight and talk to me face to face. He knew his place.

“And her eyes, my Lord, pool blue eyes with a depth unfathomable. She has…your eyes.” the man said finally, looking up and looking into my eyes.

A smile spread across my face as I heard his last words. The apple hadn’t fallen far from the tree apparently.

“You have bought me good news. Meet me here tomorrow at the same time. But tomorrow, bring the fiend to me. Tritica. She knows the location of the portal. That information is vital to me!” I concluded our meeting, dismissing the man.

The man got to his feet and with his back bent slowly made his way out of the cave.

“And when you get the opportunity, finish off the boy. At least I’ll have one less hindrance. I can take care of the girl myself.” I spoke to the now receding shadow.

“Do not fail me, Zatvar Alayder.” I added before the shadow disappeared.

He knew what would happen if he failed.
