In a large field of short, green grass lies 15 odd burrows, filled with small rodents resembling mammals. It is Alan's goal to rid these holes of the mammals and fill his stomach with them.
As he walks through the field he stops every now and again to dip his beak into a hole. After 20 minutes of doing that he finally finds something. He hears that squeak of a mammal in one of the burrows. Once again he shoves his beak into the hole attempting to reach and pull out the animal. But all he is met by is the pain of teeth in his beak. Startled, he jumps back and shakes his head before returning to the hole once more. He continues this process one more time before grabbing the mammal.
Just as he's about to scarf down the animal it begins letting out a warning call to the others in its group, who all continue doing the alert noise. The noises continue as the Alanqa looks around, confused.
All of the noise has brought trouble. Out of the forest walks the injured Rugops to inspect the noise. In front of him he spots Alan, faced the other way. This might be his chance to get food. It's been 4 days since his last meal, and he's beginning to grow impatient.
The Rugops runs at Alan with the speed of a thousand bullets. Alan hears the Rugops and begins trying to take off. But, in his panicked state he is having trouble. He hops, hoping to push himself off the ground and in the air, but is failing. The Rugops is right behind him. The Rugops bites at the now airborne pterosaur, but only manages to bite the leg. Bad for the Rugops, but even worse for Alan.
Now that his leg is out of commission he will be unable to hunt properly. As he returns to his territory, hurt and afraid he lays down, preparing his journey to the South American sea to find a mate.
