As the Rugops is chowing down, the blood flows down the small stream, dyeing the water a brilliant red. The smell of the kill begins to attract scavengers. Small mammals appear out of the swamp hoping to get some food. One by one the mammals run to the carcass, grab food and run off. The constant chatter of the weasel-like mammals turns the swamp from peaceful white noise to busy and obnoxious.
The constant stealing of his food and the loud chirping begins to annoy the Rugops, who, up until now, was paying the scavengers no attention.
The Rugops lets out a crocodilian-like hiss, telling the mammals to stay away.
However, this is not enough to deter the hungry little animals, who continue to eat and vocalize. They fight over the food, which ends up being the death of at least a few mammals.
The Rugops then lunges towards the mammals, picking up one in his mouth, which he subsequently eats.
The dinosaur thrusts his head to the left and picks up yet another animal. SNAP. The Rugops jerks his head in the opposite direction, towards the sound. Standing not 5 metres away from him is the largest and meanest predator around. Carcharodontosaurus, the shark toothed lizard. He looks hungry.
The Carchar's brown and black feathers blend into the mud, making him almost invisible. The orange eyebrow ridges look like a flame above the eyes of the devil. This 13 metre long, 8 metric ton animal won't go away without a fight.
The Carcharodontosaurus approaches the carcass, hoping that the Rugops will flee out of fear. But this is not the case. The Rugops unleashes a hiss that sounds like a popped tire. The Carchar continues approaching. The Rugops still will not back down, and prepares to fight. The Carcharodontosaurus and Rugops begin circling each other in a dance of death. Neither animal wants to fight, as even the smallest injury could result in death.
They both slam their bodies into each other, throwing around enough force to crush any animal. The Carchar lets out a high pitched shriek, disorienting and confusing the Rugops. The Carcharodontosaurus takes this time to bite down on the Rugops' snout, its shark-like serrated teeth scratching away all the flesh that stands in its way.
Then, the Carcharodontosaurus slashes and scratches at the Rugops with its razor sharp claws. The Rugops stumbles back before charging back at the attacker. The Carchar meets this with a sidestep and a bite to the neck.
Even though the allosaurid is one of the largest dinosaurs to ever live, it only has a bite force 500 times that of a lion's, much less than most other dinosaurs. This weak bite force cannot inflict enough pressure to kill the Rugops, but the serrated teeth allow the maximum amount of flesh to be ripped off of its neck.
With this final blow, the Rugops runs off into the forest, defeated. The Carcharodontosaurus sinks its teeth into its newly won meal.
