I wake up.
I pick up my phone to check the time.
10:55pm
Laughter rings out right outside my door. I climb down the small ladder of the side of the bunk bed. I hop a bit to avoid the clothes strewn across the tiny bit of floor of the small room I share with my sister.
I yawn loudly and pull back the curtain. I step into the small brightly lit living room
Mum, Dad, and Favour are seated on the long couch, faces about 5 feet from the television. That's how small our BQ is.
Favour is seated on the arm of the couch away from me. So I silently take a seat on the arm of the couch right outside my room entrance.
Mum is seated right beside me chewing on something. She slyly grins up at me.
"You're just waking up abi? Sleep sleep. That's the only thing you know how to do"
Dad takes a glance at me and laughs before shifting his focus to the hilarious Yoruba movie they were watching on the TV.
I grin and beg mum for the snack she's chewing. She elbows me in the side before giving me some of the cashew nuts.
Favour laughs hilariously at something Yoruba funny man Ijebu says as he tries to hinder the suitor of the main actress from entering the house that he's the security man of.
I giggle as I listen to the Yoruba insults roll out of his mouth, silently filing some insults in my brain for use on my enemies later.
Ping!
A message comes in on my phone. I lean back to pick it from the window ledge behind the couch.
11:00pm
WhatsApp message from...
Fiyin.
An involuntary shiver goes down my spine. I click on it, draw my pattern to open my WhatsApp.
It's been long since I heard from her. She's been too busy with her predegree program which would help her gain admission to study medicine in Obafemi Awolowo university.
Fiyin: So, you can see them (11:00pm)
I shiver again at the sentence. I must be coming down with a cold.
Confused, I scroll up. I have forgotten the previous conversation.
Oh
I text my response quickly and put off my data. With a smile I take 3 cashew nuts into my mouth and snuggle into the arm rest so that I can enjoy the movie with my family.
Me: Yes...
I can see them..
