VINNIE'S POV

It's been 2 weeks since i've heard anything about Kai's condition. I still haven't gone to see her or reached out to anyone. I still feel guilty to even say anything to anyone.

I sat contemplating what to do when my phone buzzed.

*Incoming text from unknown number*

UNKNOWN
Hey vin, this is Rob,Kai's dad. Kai still hasn't woke up yet and honestly at this point we're losing hope. I know you and I aren't on the best terms but I think you should come see her. I think she needs to hear your voice.

Please don't give up yet. I'll catch the next flight out. I'll be there as soon as possible!

I decided that after the one person who I thought would never text me reached out, I needed to go see her. This had to mean she was in bad shape.

I left my room and looked for Alex and Thomas. I thought with all of us looking for plane tickets we'd find one that was leaving today.

"Hey Thomas, I need you and Alex's help. I'm gonna go to Arizona. Her dad texted me saying it's best if I come see her. Which absolutely scares me but I feel like I have to." I looked at him with my arms crossed over my chest.

"Absolutely! Let me grab my laptop and we'll help you!" Thomas ran upstairs to his room and ran back down with his laptop in hands.

After an hour of looking we found a flight leaving at 4pm. It was already 1pm. I had time to pack and then quickly head to the airport.

Alex and Thomas both dropped me off and said our goodbyes.

2 and a half hours later I landed in Arizona. I ubered to the hospital and asked the receptionist if she knew what floor Kai was on.

"Hey, you must be Vinnie. I'm Marleigh, Kai's best friend." She stuck her hand out and I shook it.

I felt awkward being here but I felt like I needed to be. Kai and I have been through quite a bit in just a couple weeks of knowing her.

"She's in there if you wanna go see her. She's hasn't opened her eyes but she can hear you." Her dad pointed to her room. "Take your time."

I slowly made my way into her room. I saw her body laying there lifeless. She was somewhat pale and didn't look like herself. All these machines surrounded her whether it was her oxygen machine or iv drips. It ripped me apart to see her like that.

I sat down slowly on her bed. My body faced her lifeless one.

"Hey, Kai it's me, Vin. Your dad reached out to me this morning. I know I haven't texted you or called you and i'm sorry. I know you saw the pictures of Nailea and I but the truth is she's not you." My voice cracked. I held both her hands in mine holding one hand to my cheek. "I need you to wake up,I need you to boss me around and make fun of me. I need to hear your voice. I'm not complete without you. I've barely slept because all I can think about is you. I need my girl back." My eyes were watery. I was trying my best to hold it all together.

KAI'S POV

I could hear Vinnie's voice. Telling me all these things that he needed from me, but someone or something felt like it was holding me back.

"Honey, you need to wake up. That boy needs you. Wake up!" It sounded like my moms voice.

"Mom?" I felt my self start to shake and my heart race.

"Wake up! WAKE UP KAI!" The voice yelled at me.

My eyes shot open. My eyes felt fresh and alive. I looked in front of me to see Vinnie whose tears stopped falling once he saw me wake up.

He smiled at me. "Oh my god, i'm so glad you're okay."

"Oh good! You're awake. Welcome back ms.hayes. You're family and friends have missed you. How do you feel?" The doctor asked me.

"Um....confused. Can I talk to my dad?" I rubbed my eyes. I felt my iv hang from my hand.

"Of course. I'll go grab him." She walked out and went to grab my dad.

"What are you doing here?" I turned my head to Vinnie.

"Your dad texted me. He said it would be a good idea to come see you. Kai i'm so-." My dad walked in before he could finish his sentence.

"Oh buddy! I've missed you. Could you give us a second Vinnie?" My dad walked in and carefully sat beside me.

Vinnie nodded and left. He kissed my forehead before walking out.

My dads eyes grew wide as he looked at me. "I assume you two made up?"

"Far from it. What happened? How did I get here?" I watched my dads mood shift.

"You were in an accident. You crashed at your comp. you hit head first and ended up with just a broken leg and some brain swelling. Kai, you've been in here for 3 weeks." He sighed.

"Dad, I saw mom." I bluntly stated.

"What? Honey, I know you hit your head but your mom died. You remember that right?" My dad was confused.

"I heard her. I know she died but I heard her voice. She was yelling at me to wake up." I tried sitting up but my body couldn't do it on its own.

"I..I don't know what to tell you hun. Maybe it's a sign she's watching over us. The doctors said you can go home in the next couple of days as long as everything is fine. Unfortunately....you didn't qualify for Xgames and you may never be able to ride again." My dad grabbed my hand.

"I'm sorry dad. I tried my hardest I could. I was just distracted. I don't even want him here. He should feel guilty." I looked out the door.

"Kai, you know me. I know you know that I don't like Vinnie but I know he would never intentionally hurt you. I mean he flew all this way just to be with you. Whatever is going on between you two you need to talk. I wish your mom and I were still able to talk about her problems but I can't. So please for me, just talk it out." His eyes saddened as he held my hand. He had hope.

"Fine. Since when do you agree with Vinnie?" I gave him a playful smirk.

"I don't but I know he makes you a better person and that's all I can ask for and if you weren't injured right now I'd totally beat you up!" He laughed.

"I love you dad." I smiled.

"Love you too buddy!" He kissed my forehead and we sat waiting for more updates.

UGH MY HEART! I feel like this wasn't as sad as I thought it would be. What are we feeling about the book?
