-Akaashi’s pov-

Akaashi was stuck in his thoughts, almost unable to think clearly, when his phone went off. He mustered the strength to look at who was calling. He was going to have to hide the sadness from his voice.

"Oh hello Bokuto-san, are you here already?" They had agreed to meet with each other after school today.

"Yeah, I'm outside, what do you want to do? We can go to the park, or go eat something?" Bokuto was so unapologetically excited, but Akaashi already knew that all his energy would have to go towards keeping up this facade. Bokuto was really excited for this... But why?

"We can do whatever you'd like, although the park does sound fun." Akaashi softly spoke as he put the phone on speaker, and began stripping. He didn't want to spend the rest of the day in his school uniform. He decided on a more casual outfit, since all the two would be doing is hanging out.

"Yes! Ok just come down when you're ready and we can walk there." Even through the phone, Akaashi could practically see Bokuto’s beaming smile. A smile that almost seemed to break Akaashi bit by bit every time he saw it. Bokuto was just too happy, too willing to befriend Akaashi.

But Akaashi pushed on, he was just heading downstairs to pull a pair of sneakers on, when he realized that his face was spilt open in a almost maniac smile. He was genuinely excited for this adventure between the two of them. Realizing that Bokuto might find Akaashi’s excitement unsettling, he fixed his face back into the schooled expression of indifference. "Mom I'm heading out, can you lock the door behind me?" He called out to the living room. His mother waved her hand back at him, signaling that she heard him.

The door opened and Akaashi almost fell backwards into his house. "Geez Bokuto-san, you almost knocked me over." Akaashi wasn't mad by a long shot, the warm and comforting hug from his friend both unsettled and reassured him.

"Sorry, sorry. It's just that I'm excited to hang out with you again." Bokuto had that same beaming smile, Akaashi couldn't help but think that he didn't know anything else but to be happy 24/7.

"But you just saw me a couple hours ago." Akaashi sighed in what any other set of ears would hear as discontent, but really, the sigh was in longing. Akaashi just really longed for this to be real. But as always his inner monologue rang out to him about how fake this friendship was, and that he would never be happy. He couldn't help but continue to believe it.

"So? What, are you saying I can't be excited to see my best friend?" Bokuto had a charming smile, slightly different from the goofy grin he usually wore. And he had the tone of teasing in his voice. He pulled Akaashi out of the doorway and took the two of them in the direction of the park. "And to be fair, we only ever hang out at school."

He talks about "us" like we've been friends for years.

He hates you, you're just entertaining to him. A weak little thing to laugh at. Shut up, let me get through this please.

"Earth to Akaashi!" Bokuto had stopped walking and was waving his hand infront of his new friends face, Akaashi must've zoned out.

"Sorry, what were you saying?" Akaashi put on a polite and small smile. He was lost in his not so pleasant thoughts. And the last thing he needed was Bokuto asking about it.
