Dwayne’s POV ~
I grab all of my clothing I can distinguish from James’ and get dressed as quickly as possible. I feel the back pocket of my jeans to double check my keys are still there and thankfully they are. I walk over to the bedside table next to where I woke up and grab my Calvin Klein watch and make a run for the door, attempting to not make a sound to wake James. Just as reach the door I hear a soft vibration coming from the bedroom. I take a few steps closer back to the bedroom to peer in to see what it is. Shit. It’s my phone on James’ beside table. I notice him move and I realize if it doesn’t stop soon he’ll wake up. I make my way straight into his kitchen and grab the first thing I see, an iron frying pan.
I make my way back to the bedroom creeping slowly over towards the bedside table on James’ side of the bed. I reach my hand out towards my still buzzing phone and close my eyes as I get closer. My index finger connects with the screen and moments after the rest of my hand curls around it to pick it up. Suddenly a hand stops me in my tracks snapping my eyes open focusing on the face staring up at me.
“What’s this I see, have sex with me and just leave huh? Well guess what babe, it’s not going to work that way this time” James blurts still half asleep.
I quickly place the frying pan behind my back realizing it was a smart move to get it for a backup plan.
“Come back to bed hot stuff, we can continue where we left off last night” James whispers getting out of bed making his way over to me as I take a step back.
“Actually, you know what? I think I might cook us breakfast. You want one of my famous cheese omelettes? They’re Michael’s favourite” I conclude.
I quickly pull the frying pan back around and aim straight for James’ face. Whack. I knock him straight to the floor and look down at him realizing he’s unconscious. I stare for a few moments realizing what I’d actually managed to do and then suddenly a giant smile spread across my face. I threw the frying pan on the bed, grabbed my phone and for the second time, made a run for the door leaving James in a heap on the ground.
I make my way to the elevator to catch a cab back home before Michael wakes up. The elevator door pings open and I run out and hail a cab straight away. The driver runs a few red lights and almost hits a pedestrian in the rush to get me home as fast as possible. The cab pulls up in front of our apartment block and I throw a twenty in the front passenger door before sprinting up the stairs to our front door. I press my ear against it to see if I could hear any sound from the TV or radio from Michael but it was silent so thankfully he was still asleep. I push my key in gently hearing each individual click as the lock makes its way open and I gently turn the handle to open the door. I sigh of relief when I see nobody’s up yet and make my way to the bathroom.
“Well, well well, look who’s creeping in the house at the early hours of the morning” a voice behind me says.
I freeze in my tracks trying to match the voice to all of our friends. I turn around to see a person standing there with their arms crossed and an annoyed look on their face. Heather.
“I cannot believe you Dwayne! Michael was absolutely worried sick about you last night. Where the hell were you all bloody night?” Heather demands.
“Look I can explain everything, just tone your voice down okay?” I reply walking towards Heather.
“You better start explaining, I swear to god if you’ve done something stupid though I will cut your balls off and blend them and give you a breakfast smoothie” Heather says with a deadly look.
I raise my hands up in defence before offering a seat in the lounge room. Heather sits across from me not moving her eyes off of me for a split second. I hesitate for a few moments not knowing if I should tell her everything or just parts of what happened.
“Start talking or it’s smoothie time” Heather snaps.
I start talking as tears start to form in the corners of my eyes knowing what happened was horrible and a huge mistake that never should have happened. Heather’s eyes widen but she doesn’t say a word as I tell her about James making a move onto me. I finish telling her everything and she stands and takes a few steps towards me. Suddenly I feel the palm of her hand connect with the side of my cheek as my head turns sharply to the right.
“That’s for your idiot decision making last night” Heather says with a slight smile. “And this, is good luck for when you tell Michael” she finishes pulling me into a back breaking hug.
“That’s the problem, I don’t know if I should or how I should break it to him, I know he’s not a judgemental guy and all but this is big” I stutter
“Dwayne you have to tell him, if he finds out you kept it from him, he’ll be more upset then he might be if you told him right away” Heather says placing her hand on my shoulder.
“I know I should but I’m scared how he’ll react, he’s been the best thing to happen in my life for almost 4 years now and I don’t want this to be the thing that breaks us up all because of my ex and my idiot actions”
“I know you’re scared but trust me on this, it needs to be done and if you don’t do it then worse James’ might tell him first”
I cup my face with my hands and let out a soft weep of desperation.
“Dwayne you need to tell him” Heather says getting stern.
“Tell me what?” a raspy voice emerges.
Heather and I turn to see Michael standing in the doorway rubbing his eye from waking up. I turn back to Heather and give her a panicking look.
“Who needs to tell me something?” Michael repeats questioning what’s going on.
