Michael’s POV ~

I close my eyes to hold the tears back at the sight I just saw having a visual replay constantly going over and over in my head of the plane blowing into a million pieces. I re open them to see fire trucks racing across the tarmac to get to the blaze and see if anyone managed to survive. Another round of tears begins to form in the corners of my eyes so I instantly shut them to restrain them from flowing down my cheeks. I stand there motionless forever, frozen in time not knowing what to do. The sirens from outside are the only noise my ears can focus on along with the muffled chatter of people around me pointing in shock at what just occurred. A single phone call was all it took and I couldn’t even stop her. Ten minutes later the people around me have moved on and I remain at the window just staring into the distance completely lost from everything. The crying had stopped but my mind was still spinning out of control with thoughts of who the caller could be, what if Heather didn’t catch the plane, would she still be alive, was this my fault and more that were making me start to feel nauseous.

“What did I miss? Is everything okay” A soft voice behind me asks.

I turn around with my face as pale as a ghost and the facial expression of brick to answer the voice’s question. My eyes don’t make contact with hers though. I just stare at the pattern on the carpet before speaking.

“Michael, what are you doing here?” the voice asks.

My head snaps up to see Heather looking straight at me. I can’t even speak before tears come streaming down my face and I run up to her pulling her into a tight hug and just weep in her shoulder.

“I-I thought you were dead” I manage to push out.

“Dead? Michael what happened? Heather asks

“The p-plane, I thought you were on it when it crashed”

“Crashed? So you were right about someone out to hurt me?”

“I didn’t know this was going to happen, I just knew someone said that I should hope you’re safe” I continue to weep.

“I was busting for the loo after you called me and the gates closed just as soon as I managed to get a cubicle, but I was unsure whether to listen to you or not”

“You have no idea how thankful I am for your weak bladder right now” I laugh “I still don’t think you should catch a flight though, just not yet anyway, who knows what might happen if you decide to go on the next available flight”

“I’ll just stay at a hotel nearby, I don’t wanna impose on you and Dwayne for another night” Heather says.

“You sure? You’re more than welcome to spend a night with us especially considering it was your near death experience”

“I’ll be okay haha, a hotel isn’t so bad, they have a pool and room service”

“Okay well at least let me drop you off there?” I insist.

“That would be lovely thank you” Heather answers with a big smile.

I grab Heather’s suitcase and she wheels her carry on behind me as we make our way back to the drop off bay where I left the car in all the rush. An airport officer waits patiently next to the car pulling out a small sized book from her pocket as we show up.

“I’m sorry for leaving the car parked here, I was in a rush to save my friend because I thought she was in danger” I apologize.

“That’s lovely but you left your vehicle in a no stopping zone for over 30 minutes” She argues.

“Look, I’m sorry for the inconvenience; it hasn’t exactly messed up the drop off bay though has it?”

“A pedestrian could have been injured the way the car is parked on the footpath though sir”

“I don’t really see anyone underneath my car so I think I’m pretty much fine” I continue as I place Heather’s last suitcase in the back.

“Wait you can’t leave the scene, I still have to give you a ticket!” She shouts

“Listen here little miss reflective bitch tits” Heather cuts in walking around from the passenger side. “My best friend literally saved my life, I think the least you could do is cut the crap and let him off with some sort of warning to not park on a footpath?”

“This has nothing to do with you ma’am, this is the drivers doings”

“Well considering I’m getting int- OMG IS THAT BRITNEY SPEARS!?” Heather points into the airport making the officer turn around.

Heather runs around to the passenger side and I get in the driver side and drive off before the officer even has a chance to stop us. We crack up laughing as we drive off looking in the rear view mirror and Heather opens the sun roof to wave back to her. We continue to drive a bit further until we start to reach the hotels not far from the airport. We pull into the Hilton and I hop out the car to help Heather with her bags onto a luggage cart.

“Well I guess this is goodbye for a second time around” I laugh as I give her a hug.

“You can always stay for a bit if you want? I don’t mind plus we could always go out for a coffee” Heather suggests.

“I’d love to but I think I should I should probably get back to Dwayne, I didn’t really have a chance to explain to him what was going on because I was trying to get to you as fast as I could”

“Awww, well you shouldn’t have sped or anything, I should have listened to you the first time but hey, I’m still chugging along aren’t I?”

“You better not stop chugging anytime soon either” I say as I point at her. “Anyways, I love you and I shall talk to later, I hope you have a safe flight next time around”

“Bye bye beautiful baby!” Heather waves as I make my back home.

Heather’s POV ~

I push the luggage cart into the lobby and make my way over to the reception desk.

“Hi, I’d like a room for the night please, non-smoking” I ask to a man in a lovely suit.

“Sure thing” The man smiles as he swipes a key card through a machine. “There you go, room 193 on the second floor” he says as hand me the card.

“Thank you” I say making my way to the elevator with my bags. I make my way down the hallway and locate my room with no hassle. I push the card into the door handle and it unlocks with a quick beep. I leave my luggage in a single file line along the wall near the door and flop straight on the bed feeling exhausted. I begin to make my way over to the window when suddenly the phone rings.

“Hello?” I ask wondering who it is.

You might have survived this time but don’t count on yourself having 9 lives a cat. Next time you might not be so lucky” A muffled voice says before hanging up.

I leave the phone pressed to my ear as the dial tone keeps playing as I sit frozen on the end of the bed realizing someone really is out to hurt me, but who?
