Chapter 42

-Emiko POV-

I saw Seijuro pick up the ball and threw it to Tetsuya.
"The day has finally come" said Seijuro. "Honestly, I'm surprised. I thought it unlikely that you'd make it this far. Do you have your answer now?"
"Yes" said Tetsuya without hesitation.

"Then show me your basketball" said Seijuro.
"No" said Tetsuya. "I won't be showing you my basketball. It's our basketball"
"I see" said Seijuro with a smile. "I accept your challenge"

Shutoku won the third place match, not to anyone's surprise...
"Emi" said Tetsuya and I looked at him. "I promise, we'll bring Akashi-kun back"
"Heh?" I said.
"I promise" he said and I smiled.

I couldn't answer him, because I was too surprised...
"Kuroko" said Furihata. "Could you use this during today's game?"
They held out a wristband.

"What? This is..." said Tetsuya.
"All our spirits are in there" said Kawahara. "We may not get to play, but we want to fight with you"
"Thank you" said Tetsuya.

"Go on, wear it" I smiled.
"But..." he said and I put it around his wrist.
"You can wear the one from your friend and this one" I said. "My spirit is in that too"

"Emi" he said and I smiled.
"Don't get all sentimental now, Tetsu" I chuckled.
"It's time" said Hyuga and they all got together. "Let's win! Seirin, fight!"

"Yeah!" we all shouted.
"Before the game begins, allow us to introduce the teams" said the announcer. "In the black uniforms, Seirin High. Their faculty adviser is Takeda Kenji. Their coach is Aida Riko. Their manager is Maeda Emiko"

'Heh? Even me?'
I bowed nervously and Riko smiled.
"We couldn't have done this without you, Emiko-chan" she whispered.

"Next is their starting line-up" said the announcer. "Number 11, Kuroko Tetsuya"
The crowd went wild and I frowned.
'This isn't good'

"There he is! The Phantom Sixth Man!"
"He's starting again today!"
"Number 10, Kagami Taiga" said the announcer. "Number 7, Kiyoshi Teppei. Number 5, Izuki Shun. Number 4, Captain Hyuga Junpei"

Our team lined up.
"In the white uniforms, Rakuzan High" said the announcer. "Their coach is Shirogane Eiji. Next is their starting line-up. Number 8, Nebuya Eikichi. Number 7, Hayama Kotaro. Number 6, Mibuchi Leo. Number 5, Mayuzumi Chihiro"
'Heh? Why does he give me a bad feeling...'

"Their only third-year" said Kawahara.
"Keep an eye on him" I said. "He gives me a bad feeling"
"Number 4..." said the announcer. "Captain Akashi Seijuro"

Rakuzan lined up in front of our team.
"The Winter Cup final between Seirin High and Rakuzan High will now begin" said the announcer.
"Bow!" shouted the referee.

"Let's have a good game!" they all shouted.
"Huh? Wasn't Kiyoshi supposed to jump so Kuroko and Kagami could score?" asked Koganei when we saw Kagami take Kiyoshi's place.
"I'll let them decide" said Riko. "If Teppei switched, he probably felt it was for the best"

"I don't know" I said. "I think we might regret this later"
"It's starting" said Riko when the wistle blew. "The final tip-off"
Tetsuya got the ball and I smiled, before I saw what he was planning.

"An Ignite Pass Kai?! Tetsu!" I shouted. "Crap, he's overexcited"
Hyuga fumbled and missed the shot.
Kagami managed to stop the counterattack.

Kagami jumped and made the shot over Seijuro's head.
"Shit" I said. "He's in the Zone"
'That idiot!'

I'll admit, his offence was amazing when he was in the Zone.
But this was bad... the Zone is draining on your stamina, idiot...
"Amazing. He's keeping Rakuzan at 0 points" said Koganei.
