Chapter 38

-Akashi Seijuro POV-

"It's over" said Eikichi.
"We're playing Kaijo in the finals" said Kotaro.
I looked at Emi, she didn't look lost... she looked determined...

'4 seconds left... there are still 4 seconds left... they planned this'
"Go!" shouted Seirin's entire bench, including Emiko when they went for a fast break.
"The situation is perfect! Are they..." said Eikichi.

"Yes. This was Seirin's true aim" I said. "Leaving a few seconds for a counterattack, they drew Ryota under the net, giving Kagami a head start. Starting with their run and gun, everything's been leading to this moment. You've never been one to give up, Tetsuya"

Ryota was fast.
"You have got to be kidding me!" I heard Emiko shout.
But Kagami didn't jump far enough.
"Kagami-kun!" I heard Tetsuya shout.

Kagami shot at the hoop, making it bounce to Tetsuya.
Tetsuya shot the ball and they scored...
"Yes!" I heard Emiko yell.
She was hugging their coach, she looked really happy.

-Emiko POV-

We won... we actually won...
Riko was crushing me, but I didn't mind.
When Tetsuya came back to the bench, he hugged me tightly.

"You did it, Tetsuya" I smiled.
"Next, I promise, we'll beat Akashi-kun" he said and I froze.
"What?" I said.

"I promise, we'll beat Akashi-kun" he said again and I smiled.
"Okay" I said. "Looking forward to seeing that"

"We won!"
"We made it to the finals!"
I saw Tetsuya looking at his hand.

"What's wrong, Tetsu?" I asked.
"I was so focused on passing" he said. "I hadn't made a shot yet. That was my first buzzer-beater"
"I guess you're right" said Koganei.

"I could..." said Tetsuya and his face became all relaxed, it was kind of disturbing. "Die happy now"
"I've never seen you so happy!" said Kagami.
"And skip the dying part, please" I said.

"No wonder you're so happy" said Kiyoshi.
"Today you're not inconspicuous" said Izuki. "You're the hero of the day"
"Don't celebrate too hard" said Hyuga. "The war's not over yet"

But even Hyuga could die happy now...
"Captain, your face is melting too!" said Kagami. "It's gross!"
Riko hit Hyuga with her paper fan.
"Pull yourselves together!" she shouted. "One more game to the top. We're playing for Kaijo and every team we've beaten"

"Okay, let's go home!" shouted Hyuga.
"What?! It's gone!" said Kagami and looking for something.
"What's gotten into you?" asked Hyuga.

"I lost my ring!" said Kagami.
"What?" said Hyuga.
"I'm going to go look for it!" said Kagami and ran back to the field.
"Don't worry, we'll go bring him back" I said and dragged Tetsuya with me.

We found Kagami talking to Midorima on the field...
"You beat Kise" said Midorima.
'Way to point out the obvious...'

"Yeah" said Kagami. "What?"
"I didn't think you'd reach Akashi" said Midorima. "You've done well"
"Why are you acting so high and mighty?" said Kagami. "Why are you here anyway?"

"No reason" said Midorima. "I was in a pensive mood"
"What? Aren't you playing for third tomorrow?" asked Kagami.
"It doesn't matter" said Midorima. "It's not what I wanted, but it's already been decided. I'll watch your game when it's over"

"Are you rooting for Akashi?" laughed Kagami.
"Of course not, idiot" said Midorima.
"What?" said Kagami.

"I don't intend to or need to" said Midorima. "Akashi is strong"
"I know, but you can't be sure until you try" said Kagami.
"Hey! What are you two doing here?" it was Takao, he stood next to us.
