My Promise (Shadow the Hedgehog x Maria's Sister! Reader)

Prologue

It's been fifty years... Fifty goddamn years after the brutal and murderous event happened. Maria Robotnik, my dear twin sister, was shot dead. She was only a child! A teenager! She didn't deserve any of this! She was a beautiful girl with blond hair and blue gentle eyes, a perfect appearance for a person, even for a Mobian. Maria and I were close, even when I couldn't speak at the time. We have no idea what happened to our parents. We did live once on Earth and it was not a good life. It was the 20th century at the time. I was Maria's twin, which meant that I was born first and my dear sister came a few minutes after. We were both beautiful.

Growing up, I and Maria lived in completely normal life on Earth. But soon, it wouldn't be like that... Maria attracted Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome or N.I.D.S. (NIDS) for short. There's not known much about the disease. But what I can tell was that it appears in victims. It made you physically weak. Sadly, the condition worsens over time, which meant that the victims need constant medical attention. Maria suffered from that. When I heard the diagnosis, I was devasted. I learned some little diseases or illnesses from my grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. I remember I stole his book once and it was everything about that. NIDS was there as well, except not much information. I did a lot of brainstorming to remember the diagnoses, symptoms, etc.

I was not the only one that was devasted, worried, and overprotective about my twin. Meet our grandfather, Gerald. He was a great scientist that adored us a lot. He said to us that we were the reasons to live for, even though he's old. We all had a strong and great relationship with each other and we loved it. Maria was a caring and gentle soul if you ever meet her. She cared for everybody. Even though she wasn't allowed to play rough games because of her condition, she did her best to care for me and grandfather Gerald. We even had a photo, three of us together, smiling and holding each other. Grandfather Gerald wanted to cure my twin but he feared that while we stay on Earth, that Maria's condition would worsen and in the end... kill her. That's why we moved into space. This was not a joke! We did! You're asking, how was this possible? Well, I have no idea how to explain it.

We stayed at Space Colony ARK. The ARK was the first space colony created by mankind. Not many people know that the ARK contained a top-secret research facility where weapons of mass destruction were being created. The ARK was also used by the government for scientific testing and experimentation and housed some of the world's finest minds in the most advanced research center of its kind.

You may think, how was it like there to live? Well, it was weird in the beginning. I mean, me and Maria moved from Earth to the ARK in SPACE. Yes, we had bedrooms, bathrooms, playrooms, experimental rooms, etc. I and Maria sometimes slept together, even though we each had our bedroom. Maria's bedroom was blue, which suited her because of her eyes and the blue dress she wore, even her famous blue headband. Blue was her favorite color. Mine was F/C. Since we sometimes slept together, GG (Grandfather Gerald) made us a special bedroom that was F/C and blue, shading together. We were very thankful to him. But anyway, when I and Maria were children, GG was making a secret project behind our backs. It was called Project Shadow. GG made the project thanks to Black Doom since they worked together. I and Maria did manage to get a sneak peek and it was a black hedgehog that had cool red stripes. It suited him a lot. It was a male. Of course, his name was Shadow, Shadow the Hedgehog. When he was completed, he was awakened and we finally met face-to-face properly. Maria was adorable when excited. It made me smile. She introduced herself to Shadow and me... well, I was a mute at the time. No one understood why I didn't start speaking as a baby or a couple of years later. GG and Maria tried to teach me how to speak but nothing as a result... But when I showed signs to them that I understand and hear them perfectly, they were happy. I learned sign language myself and to GG and Maria. Shadow too. I do sometimes wrote on a whiteboard with a black marker.
