My Promise (Shadow the Hedgehog x Maria's Sister! Reader)

Chapter 4: Maria's Death

Trigger warning: death character.

Due to a lack of ideas I've decided to skip years forward until their teenage years. It's unknown how old Maria was when she died so 15 is made up.

It's been years since I and Maria met Shadow the hedgehog. I was nearly an adult but I was on my way, same for Maria. We were both 15 now but recently, I experienced something that I don't know would happen to me. GG brought us to a private room and in return, he injected me with something that I don't know of. What was that? GG wouldn't tell me at all. I didn't dare to tell Maria and/or Shadow because I was scared. How would they react? What would they do? 

I was still mute as you can see but it didn't mean that I tried to give up talking. Trying at least to talk. I nearly succeeded a couple of times to make a word out of my mouth but for some unknown reason, it blocked my voicebox inside my neck to stop me from talking. It honestly made me depressed that I didn't want to get out of my bed or leave my room. I also started to feel lonely...

Maria tried to get me out a couple of times and she even offered to comfort me. shadow was always by her side like an overprotective sibling. speaking of siblings, shadow remarked: "Maria is like a sister to me."

But what about me? Who was I to Shadow, then? He never answered the question. Was I an... enemy? No, it couldn't be. we were close but not this close as how Maria and Shadow were. 

I couldn't help as I stood in front of the mirror and opened the locket necklace. It was a heart necklace I got from GG and Maria as a gift. But for some unknown reason Shadow, I got a ring from him. But why? He did tell me that there's a reason but sadly can't tell me about it to me. Does Shadow trust me? What was he hiding from me? Seriously, the only people who knew about the ring's secret reason were GG, Maria, and Shadow himself. Maria giggled when I was so confused about the ring and GG chuckled while Shadow hid a smile. Gosh, it's so embarrassing to be the only one who was lost.

I left my room and decided to visit Maria's room since my sister was in her room, doing her stuff but I decided to hang out at her place today. However, I never imagined losing her soon... at any moment. 

I suddenly heard running footsteps at me when I turned to look, it was Shadow himself. He was panting from running but he had a panicked yet serious look on his face. "Y/N, we need to run, now."

He then took my hand and began to run. Just because I was mute didn't mean that I was panting in silence. You can hear it. I was so confused about why we needed to run. We ran towards Maria's room and we saw her just leaving out. Shadow took Maria's hand in his free one and we ran like for life. I was soon panting heavenly while Maria started to cough and pant. I panicked. This wasn't good. NIDS is attacking her cells. 

We heard footsteps behind us and saw GG was running as well with... soldiers behind him? What? What was going on? 

"Stop them! We can't let them get away!" 

We soon ran into a room and the doors closed behind us. We managed to escape... for now. Maria looked at me with a sad and scared expression and hugged me, I hugged her back. "I'm scared, Y/N. They're here to get us. I saw them this morning while you were sleeping and I escaped before they saw me."

I couldn't believe what I heard. they're here for us... But why? I looked at Shadow, who looked angry while maria continued to held into me. "That's G.U.N. They're accusing me of being a danger to you and Maria. They think that you're dangerous as well along with Maria." He then looked gently. "I will protect you both."

"Open the door!"

That caused Maria to flinch when she let go of me. She was so scared that I looked gently at her. But I was raging on the inside and then I was confused. Why that rage? I never felt it like that before... ever. I wanted to kill them and get revenge. 

We all looked towards two container glasses that were available to get to Earth. I realized something... Was this it? Shadow dragged me and Maria towards the containers but before he could answer, Maria PUSHED me and Shadow in, immediately closing. I panicked that I began to bang on the glass but it was too strong... Why did Maria do this? I looked over to my right and saw that in the other container, Shadow was banging and kicking even. 

Maria ran towards the lever and looked desperately at us. "Listen, sis, Shadow. I want you to promise me. Please..."

"No, wait!" Shadow yelled desperately. 

"Whatever happens remember I'll always be your friend and sister. We always talked about going to visit the planet one day but it looks like you both have to go there without me. Promise me also that you both will help people and be friends with them." Maria responded with a weak smile

Then we saw one of the soldiers breaking into the room and aiming his gun at Maria, who was holding into the lever. "Step away from the lever!"

When Maria refused to step aside, she was shot right in front of me and Shadow. The black hedgehog couldn't believe it and I began to cry. We watched how my sister fell to the ground, including the soldier. 

Maria looked at us weakly with a sad smile while laying on the ground, too weak to step up. "Promise me that you'll protect... people and the planet down there. Protect and... love each other. Sayonara, Shadow the Hegdheog and... Y/N Robotnik. I... love you both." 

Then she reached weakly for the lever, the soldier aiming ht begun at my dying sister. When she pulled the lever down, I? for the first time ever, screamed and let out a word. "Noooo!" But it was too late... we were being sent to Earth. The last time I remembered seeing Shadow being separated from me and meanwhile, up in the Ark, Maria smiled while tears rolled down her cheeks. She took her last breath and died.
