Sophie- He's Back, Not Him Though

"Amy, the Elite Towers collapsed today." I say when I hail my sister.

I teleported out of the tower when the stairs dropped from below me. I came back to Havenfeild. Now I know for sure that what I heard "Lady Cadence" say was what she wanted. It was Lady Gisela pretending to be my Linguistics Mentor. The Neverseen were behind the collapse. How? I don't know.

"I don't know what to do Amy. I can't believe this! On top of this I still haven't found Keefe," my voice cracked saying his name, "I think I want to meet up at that park again, tomorrow."

"Of course Sophie! I'll be there. The same tree as last time." Amy says, she just wants to comfort me.

I click of my Imparter and on cue Edaline, my adoptive mother, calls upstairs, "Honey, someone is here to see you!"

I groan. "Tell them to leave."

"Hey kiddo, I agree I want the visitor to leave, but you need to have some social interaction." Grady says, outside my door now.

"No I don't!" I complain.

Then I hear thunderous footsteps coming up the stairs to realize Edaline must've been holding them back before. The footsteps were like stampeding mastodons. I hear Grady shuffle out of whoever's way.

I groan even louder when the door burst open. I keep thinking not you not you not you.

That doesn't stop him from entering my room and kneeling on the flower carpet in front of me. A trail of flying petals stay in his trail.

"Go away!" I groan. I don't have the energy to yell at him anymore.

"No Sophie. You can't keep pushing me away." I pull my hand away in a fraction of a second so he can't hold it.

"Last I checked, I haven't seen you." I growl.

"Sophie. Listen to me." He pulls my chin to face him. In all his teal eyed glory. I can't help but think his reaction from me not telling him about Oralie. "Why do you hate me so much? All I've done is wait for you to come to me."

I scoff, "I'm still unmatchable." If that doesn't get him I give up.

"Sophie, I'm not here to talk about that. You were in a building that collapsed! You weren't at Foxfire and no one had seen you, I'm worried about you."

"Look, Fitz." I practically spat the name, "I don't think you are worried about me. You haven't checked on me once in the past two years, and before that only ever saw me when I was forced to ask friends to help me look for Keefe." My voice cracked on Keefe's long unspoken name.

He looked away from me as he said, "Sophie, I've been giving you the space you've asked for. If you would've asked me to come I would've, but you never ask."

I pretend to be mindblown. When he turned back he had a smile, a sad smile.

"I told you what my goal was all those years ago, right? I said I was gonna make you trust me. I haven't worked on searching for Keefe because I know you don't want the search to get to big."

I falter for an answer. Now that I think about everything, isn't all he's done what I've asked EVERYONE to do but they ignored me? But still.......

"What about my secret?"

"I don't care, not even if it means you'll always be unmatchable. I realize now, I really love you Sophie and I don't care about being a bad match." He cups my face and I know I should pull away, but something somewhere in my head won't let me.

"Trust me Sophie, please," he whispers. His lips are a hairsbreadth from mine. I involuntarily lean my forehead to his as he repeats the plea.

"I'm trying," I stutter as he leans back just a small bit.

I can't help but reach for him and put my arms around him. The shock on his face is the reason I pull myself closer to him.

"I'm really trying," I whisper.

Then he leans in and closes the last of the gap between us. His lips are warm. I should pull away but I just can't.

Then there's a knock on the door.

I decide I have to answer it but I make sure Fitz stays.

"Hey Foster, I heard an explosion happened at school and needed to make sure you didn't get hurt in the process of exploding something." A familiar blond boy smirks at me.

My heart stops.
