A Friendship break-up

Kosi and I have been friends for barely a term and now she's acting like she wants to end our friendship because of a boy.

Personally, I don't think Daniel likes her the way she does, and my other friends said so too.

For the past one week, Kosi had been avoiding and insulting me each time I spoke or even glanced at Daniel.

As much as I would like a boy, I could never stoop so low. For one, my academic reputation would be at risk, and that is my number one priority (after my family and friends of course).

I decided to call her today during lunch break and have a word with her which disorganized my normal lunch break routine of eating my lunch then going to the library. I read a lot of motivational quotes so giving advice should be a piece of cake.

As soon as the bellringer rang the bell for lunch break, I quickly ate my lunch and went to the back of the school to wait for Kosi. I told Bella about it and asked her to pass the message to Kosi.

When I got there I saw Daniel eating his lunch alone.

"Tega, what are you doing here?" He asked looking pleased.

"I'm actually waiting for someone. I need to talk to her. . .I mean he or she". I stuttered.

"Good so why you wait let's talk".
I smiled at his comment.

"Okay, what do you like doing, you know, when you're not with your guys" I asked, trying to strike up a topic.

"Well, I practice ventriloquism when I'm alone in my room" he said.

"Really? Wow, can you do it now?" I asked.

" Sure". He said. "But I'm not THAT good at it".

He brought out a small mouth puppet from his school bag he also carried along with him and began ventriloquism.

I was astonished, although there were somethings he did wrong it wasn't very noticeable.

"Wow, you know that's a very rare talent right? Too bad we're in Nigeria. How are you going to develop that kind of talent" I said.

"Well it's not a big" ----- I heard footsteps and. . .

"Hello! Tega where are you? "

Oh no, it was Kosi, I can't let her see me with Daniel.

"Daniel please can you leave here right now, you can't be here at the moment". I practically yelled. He looked offended but I decided to apologize later.

He left as I had instructed. I went in front to see Kosi.

"Kosi, we need to talk". I said.
She rolled her eyes at me and followed me as we went out back.

"So what do you want to talk about girl". She called me girl, it probably meant she's not mad at me. . . Well, not right now.

"It's about Daniel, Kosi. You're just 11 and we just entered JSS 1 class. Don't you think you should focus on your education and not a boy. I'm not saying it's a bad thing for you to like a boy since my mother told me it's normal for our age but still. Our friendship is on the line here. Are you really going to choose Daniel over Williams, Bella, Amanda and I?" I said.

"Tega just admit it! You're jealous of Daniel and I". she said. "It's bad enough you got Kemi to like you, and now you're trying to snatch Daniel from me".

Ouch! That comment hit me hard. It was true that I get a little jealous of them at times, but I know how to control my jealousy so that it doesn't get the worst of me.

Secondly, Kemi doesn't like me. He's just my friend.

"Kosi, Kemi doesn't like me. He's my friend" I replied.

"Whatever". She hissed. "And from now on, don't talk to me". And with that she left.

I'm usually a gentle person and I had tried my best. I'm going to leave her to do what she wants to do. I guess our short-term friendship is over.
