Apology to Daniel

I just sat on my seat doing nothing except continuously staring at Daniel. I felt so embarrassed after the day of Daniel's confession and Daniel hadn't spoken to me since.

I had chosen to ignore him the previous day, but I knew I had to apologize and make things less akward between us.

After giving myself a five minute pep talk, I decided to speak to him about it. Before I could even call Daniel's name the bellringer rang the bell for break time.

"Time to play ball!!" I heard Kemi yell. I turned around and smiled at Kemi as he ran out of the class.

I turned around again and saw Daniel standing up to go out of the class.

"Daniel! Wait!" I called. He didn't hear me and I had to struggle with squeezing myself as I came out of my seat. I ran after him and when I had finally caught up with him I said "I-I'm sorry for what happened last week Friday".
He just shrugged and continued moving.

"Please, can you let me explain" I pleaded, gripping his hand.  Deep down I knew he was deeply affected by my actions that day and I knew I wasn't forgiven. He looked at me, sighed and nodded.

He grabbed my hand and pulled me to the back of the school, then he folded his arms and looked at me raising a brow and waiting for me to speak.

"Umm, ok" I started, swallowing a lump in my throat. I took a deep breath and began to speak again.

"Daniel I'm really sorry for what happened that day, I really am. I-I was just so shocked and surprised and I wasn't expecting any of that drama at all. So, when you told me about your umm, feelings for me I didn't know how to react. No guy had ever really told me they liked me so I pretty much just heared that for the first time". I said.

His eyes softened and I could see a smirk on his face. "Then it's a good thing I'm your first" He said.

"Umm yeah sure". I said.

"So with that explanation I want to ask one question". He said.

"Shoot!"

"Do you like me?" I instantly froze. I didn't want to answer this question, it would break his heart and I could be a heart crusher/breaker.

"Tega". I heard him call my name.

"Yeah! Yeah, yeah. What? Sorry about that". I said, breaking out of my trance.

"So..."

"Daniel". I started off, sat down on an old bench and signaled for him to sit too, "From JSS 1 I really liked you, genuinely and you're a great friend but... sorry, I don't have any feelings for you anymore, I just consider you a great friend".

Daniel showed no expression on his face and made his lips into a thin line. "You might not like me anymore but I still do. I know you'll fall for me someday. I'll be waiting for you". He said, and began to walk away.

"Tega! Daniel what are you two doing here?!". I heard someone yell and unfortunately, I knew that voice. Daniel stopped in his tracks and glanced at the person.

"Kosi, what are you doing here?" I asked back.

"Not minding my own business". She smirked.

"Leave here!" Daniel yelled. I could see the way she was moved by his actions.

"I'm going to report to Mr. Paul!" She announced. I groaned.

Could things get any worse?!

"Tega!! Aha! I found you. Are you in trouble? My Tega protection senses were tingling". Kemi said, about a minute later. I couldn't make out where he came out from.

"Silly! Be real". I said, laughing.

"Oh ok. I just saw Kosi heading to the staff room and she just stopped to tell me that you and Daniel were here". He said, "Is anything the matter?".

"No! Get out of here". Daniel scoffed.

"Shut up joor. Is it you that I was asking" Kemi replied, then turning to me he cocked a brow.

"Actually yes, Kosi saw Daniel and I here and she said she's going to report to Mr. Paul. I don't know what she saw but we didn't do anything negative, we just spoke to each other. And I know she's going to go there and lie with my name" I explained.

"Don't worry. I'll take care of it". Kemi said. Before I could ask what he meant by that he had already left.

"Uuuuh!" I screamed in frustration.

I left Daniel and went up to the class.

"So, what have you and Daniel been up to" I heard Stella say. I turned to her and raised a brow, "Meaning?"

"I saw you running after Daniel na. You needed to see how you were running like a desperate rat trying to catch running away food". Stella said.

"Rats are always desperate to find food" Omega added.

"I thought you were downstairs. Aren't you going to play ball with the other boys?" I asked.

"Nope. My mum made my favorite food, fried rice and I just had to eat it. Football can wait. Abi we're staying for extension lesson today?" Omega asked. I nodded and he resorted to eating his food.

Today is a Tuesday and our normal dismissal time is 2:00 PM. The school management decided that the exam classes were to stay in school for two more hours for the extension lessons.

Few minutes later, Kemi walked into the class and paused in front of me, beaming widly.

"Who dashed you car?" I asked out of sarcasm.

"Your case has been solved. Kosi was found guilty and was sentenced to ten years imprisonment". He said and began to laugh. I just stared at him and began to laugh as well.

"What did you do?" I asked.

"A magician never reveals his secrets. You get the idea". He said, and I nodded.    

"Thanks! You're one in a million" I smiled.

"Hi Tega". K.C said as she walked over to me. It had been a while since we had spoken to each other.

It was few 2:03 PM and the exam classes were granted the permission to go outside the gate to buy whatever they wanted to buy because even the school management knows that they don't sell much in the school's canteen.

KC and I walked until we got outside the gate.

"How has things been going since?" I asked.

"Fine oo. It's just this Junior WAEC, me I don't want to be staying here until 4:00 PM every Tuesday and Friday" She said.

"We don't have a choice. We have to participate if we want to get As in our Junior WAEC examination" I said.

Soon we had gotten to a shop and we both stopped to buy some snacks. All of a sudden I started hearing screams and when I turned around, all the students were running back to the school.

I looked about to know why they were running when I spotted two guys with guns. I grabbed KC by the hand who was still buying snacks as the woman in the shop looked like she was about to run. KC turned around and on spotting the two armed men she screamed. We both took to our heels and ran like we had never done before.
