"You're going to let me take your seat whether you like it or not. You know you're not physically or even emotionally strong, and you're not even brave or confident sef. If you don't want me squishing you into jelly let me have my way". Chiamaka, one of the class bullies, who made everyone to start calling me soft bones whispered to me as she walked back to her seat.
I sat down there staring at her as she gracefully walked back to her seat like as if she had not just threatened me for a seat. I felt like crying actually, tears began to gather round my eyes as the same thought kept repeating itself.
"Tega is a wimp. She's so weak. Everyone thinks of her that way, even her own parents and teachers. She's not physically strong and she's not even emotionally strong".
"It's not my fault okay". I said out loud by accident as little drops of tears fell down my cheeks.
Zane and Daniel, who were talking, stopped in the middle of their conversation and stared at me.
"Is everything okay Tega?" Daniel asked.
Uuh, duuuh, of course not. A person is crying in front of you and you ask if the person is okay?
"I-I'm okay". I said, sniffing and wiping away my tears. It would be too embarrassing if Daniel and Zane found out the real reason I was crying.
"Are you sure? You can tell me.... Or this guy, what the problem is". Zane said, pointing at Daniel.
No thanks, I just met you two days ago, I'd much rather confide in someone like Kemi.
I turned to look behind me and again, Kemi was continuously staring at the new girl, looking lost in his thoughts while she argued with KC that scientists could make poop that would be edible for eating. I rolled my eyes at that girl.
"Beauty without smarts" I thought.
Like I said the first day Zane came to my school, all the girls were drooling over him...ALL of them, including the big and fat girls who were fund of sitting at the back anywhere they go.
Chiamaka walked up to Zane's seat and began to twirl her imaginary hair–I say imaginary due to the fact that she cut her hair–telling him about the school and the school's orientation for the new students that would take place on Friday.Zane obviously looked irritated at her actions. I watched in dismay as Chiamaka continuously chatted with Zane while still twirling her imaginary hair.
After speaking with him, she walked up to me and demanded that she wanted my seat. I, of course, refused and that's when she carefully leaned closed to me and whispered the words she said to me.
These girls make me sick, hopelessly crushing on a new boy. I rolled my eyes at her and smiled remembering I was acting like her as well.

School was over. I walked out of the class, hoping I would catch up to Zane and lend him a note he requested."Tega, have you thought about it? Okay, bring your seat over here and I'll move mine there". Chiamaka said as she began to move her desk. Her friends, Melinda and Adaeze looked angrily at her.
"Ah ah now, I want to stay with that boy too". Melinda voiced.
"Me too oo". Adaeze added.
"That one is you people's business. All I know is that, I'm the only one sitting beside the new boy". She said and continued moving her seat.
"I actually didn't say you could––"
"If I can't stay there then you can't either". Adaeze said, pushing Chiamaka.
"As in eh, you want to leave us abi". Melinda joined in and soon the three of them started a fight.
I quietly walked out of the class in search of Zane, but unfortunately, he was gone.
I stayed downstairs patiently waiting for Kemi who had asked me to wait for him while he quickly attend to something.I waited for nearly 20 minutes and I decided to go upstairs and see what he was up to.
I moved around the school, checking each class until I saw him in SSI class...with Rosemary, she was positioned on a desk, smiling and placing a finger on her lips while she looked up at the ceiling, legs crossed. Kemi was sketching her.
I cleared my throat, Kemi looked up, kept his sketchpad in his bag and dragged me out of class.
We went home together in silence because each time I asked him about Rosemary he would quickly dismiss the conversation or change the topic.
That's strange. What's Kemi hiding?
