Ghostly
Phil knew he was dead.
It was simple to tell. He was staring down at himself, eyes closed, chest unmoving for God's sake. Still, it wasn't an easy thing to accept.
The even harder part was watching his parents as they hold onto each other, sobbing loudly. The nurses were unhooking him from the many machines that couldn't seem to keep him alive.
It was all the fault of the drunk driver that crashed into Chris', his friend, vehicle. He'd come from the side as Chris and Phil were driving down the road, happening to hit the passenger side dead on. At least Chris is okay other than the various cuts from glass and the major concussion.
"Phil," a girl's voice says from behind him.
Phil spins around to see a blonde haired, green eyed woman no older that twenty-three standing by the door.
"Yeah?" He asks. Phil is confused. Who was she? Why is she here if Phil is dead?
"My name is Lydia; I'm a reaper. It's time for you to let go, to come with me."
Phil frowns and shakes his head. "I can't leave them," Phil explains, motioning towards his mother and father.
"Phil, if you don't come with me, you'll be stuck here."
Phil is still confused. "Where is here?"
"You'll be an infesting spirit Phil. Never moving on. Unseen by everyone. And if your here long enough, you'll grow very unhappy. Most of the time, unhappy spirits grow vengeful.
"Phil, please come with me," Lydia pleads.
Phil, being as stubborn as he is, says, "No; I am very sorry, but I can't."
Lydia sighs. "Very well then." Then she's gone. She just disappears in mid-air.
That was kind of cool, Phil thinks. I'm a spirit now.. Can I do that?
Phil squeezes his eyes shut and tries real hard, but when he opens his eyes, he's still in that room. Phil sighs and shakes his head. This is crazy.
"My baby!" Phil's mum cries out, making Phil cringe.
Phil can't take it anymore, hearing the sobs. He needs a break. Phil walks towards the door and reaches for the handle, but it just goes straight through. Phil sticks his hand out, and it goes straight through the door.
Phil shrugs and walks straight through the entire door.
This is so cool. And I'm probably the only one who thinks so.
Phil walks down the hallway of Hospice, looking around at all the people, most of whom are upset. It makes complete sense.
Phil enters an elevator with three other people in it. Phil wants to get to the first floor, but the button isn't pressed. Boy, this will be challenging.
Phil knows he can't press the button himself. By the time everyone has gotten off, Phil is still trying to think of how to get to the first floor.
Another person walks on, a boy with brown hair and brown eyes, dressed in all black. He's staring at Phil.
Can he see me? Phil wonders. One way to find out...
Phil stares back at this boy. The boy looks away, a frown on his face. "Hi," Phil quietly says, making the boy snap his attention back to Phil.
"You- You can see me?" He asks, looking startled almost.
"Yes," Phil replies. "Are you..?"
"Yeah, I'm dead."
"How'd it happen?" Phil asks. Hopefully it wasn't over the line.
"It was an accident, I know it was, but some friends and I were messing around. One thing happened after another and a few of us fell off of a balcony. It was awful."
Dan shudders after concluding the story. "You?" Then he says, "I'm Dan by the way."
"Phil," Phil states before beginning. "Um, car accident. A drunk driver crashed into me and a friend," says Phil. The air grows silent as they stand there in the elevator.
"So you didn't go?" Dan says breaking the silence.
"What?" Phil asks, confused once again.
"You didn't go with the reaper...?"
"Oh, no," Phil answers. "And neither did you I guess."
Dan shakes his head. "How long have you been...dead?"
"Only a few minutes," Phil answers shrugging. Dan presses the button for the lobby floor. Phil stares at him, his mouth open.
"Oh, sorry.." Dan responds and then looks at Phil. "What?"
"You- How'd you do that?"
"Do what?" Dan asks. Now he's the confused one.
"Press the button. Your hand didn't go through the wall or elevator or whatever."
"Oh, that. It just takes a lot of concentration," Dan tells Phil shrugging. Phil nods, wanting to try it, but he won't right now.
"So how come you didn't go with the reaper," Phil asks Dan, hoping that's he's not being intrusive.
"My parents just seemed so unhappy... I thought maybe if I could let them know I was still here, watching over them, they'd be happier. Why didn't you?"
"I couldn't leave my parents either," Phil says honestly.
"But then I found out how lonely things are going to be," Dan states glumly.
"They don't have to be." Phil is stepping out of his comfort zone now. He's not really the forward type.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean we're here together. We can be friends. Things don't have to be so lonely..."
"You really mean that?" Dan asks softly.
"Yeah, I do," Phil replies, smiling. "Friends?" Phil asks, holding his hand out.
"Friends," Dan says, grasping Phil's hand.

~Four Months Later~
Sitting in the park that Dan and Phil found to be their favorite, they stare up at the sky. They were silent, just happy to be in each other's company. Until Dan broke the silence.
"Hey Phil, can I ask you something?" Dan asks, a nervous tone in his voice.
"Yeah, of course."
"You said that you were bisexual, right? I mean, when you- we were alive."
"Yeah, but I don't think that has changed, even if we are dead. Why? Didn't you say you were too?"
"Well yeah. I just- I wanna try... something," Dan stutters.
"Okay what is it?"
Dan moves so that he's sitting in front of Phil. Phil looks down from the stars and at Dan. Dan takes a deep breath before leaning towards Phil.
Dan presses his lips against Phil's, very happy when they plant firmly against Phil's. This is what Dan was hoping for; he was hoping that kissing wasn't out of the picture. They were able to touch hands, why not lips? That was Dans thinking.
Dan is the first to pull away, his face flushed. "Sorry if that was a bit.. I don't know.. I'm sorry if I crossed the line..?"
Phil doesn't respond with words. Instead, he presses his lips back against Dan's, leaning his whole body towards Dan actually.
They topple over, Phil falling on top of Dan. They both erupt in a fit of giggles, occasionally pecking each other's lips.
"I'm glad to have you," Dan tells Phil.
"And I you."
