Percy woke up in a cold sweat, his bed torn apart with a pillow in a mess on the floor next to him. He groaned and rolled out of bed, his feet hitting cold hardwood. his mother entered the room with a warm smile. Faking a frown, she asked him, "Good morning. Or should I say afternoon? Did you wreck another pillow, Percy dear?"
"Mmmmm, morning mom." He got up and sat on the edge of his bed, head in his hands. "I'll be out of here in five minutes."
"Did you have another nightmare, dear?" Sally Blofis asked her son, sorrow obvious on her face.
Percy looked up from his hands and saw the blue eyes lingering. He grimaced himself from his nightmare. "No mom, just a little one."
"Mmmm. Want me to call Annabeth?" She asked, "You have camp tomorrow."
He shook his head, stretching his hands behind his head and smiled weakly. He asked, "no mom, can I have some blue pancakes, though?"
Sally chuckled and said, "sure thing, son." And went into the kitchen.
Percy got up and changed into some day clothes. He went to the kitchen, teased his sister and got some pancakes that Sally had made. Eating it, he went outside. Apollo had just gone back to Olympus.
Jason's death still hung around him like a blanket, dampening his mood. Sure, they fought a lot. Like all the time. But they were also best friends. And when he heard that Jason had died.....he didn't tell anyone, not even wise girl, but he was just so damn close to going to his dark side.
He remembered Annabeth's memory that Mnemosyne had showed him when he went to Olympus for a conversation with Hestia.
The Titaness had snuck up on him as he was on his way back to the elevator and got inside his mind.
He shivered, remembering the strange, tickling sensation that he felt in his head that day.
"Asphalionides, you must remember. There is good and bad in your blood. Evil and Good. Chaos and Order. You must never allow one to take over." She had said, with an oily voice. "Good without bad is just as atrocious as bad without good. You must always remember that whatever happens, your father is Asphalion. The stabilizer. Remember, dear nephew."
Then she had shown him Annabeth's memory of him while he was torturing Akhyls in Tartarus. Her feelings were of awe but mostly of fear and worry.
Ever since that day, he had a feeling in the back of his head that Mnemosyne was watching him discretely, though he didn't know why.
Percy definitely hoped that whatever it was, it wasn't another prophesy. Percy had enough Prophesies to last him several lifetimes.
Percy sighed, got up from the porch and went inside. He looked at his sister with tender eyes. He couldn't believe that such innocence, such purity like that in Estelle's eyes, still existed in the world.
"Morning Paul." Percy greeted his stepfather, who was eating some of Sally's world class blue pancakes, as he got some toys to play with Estelle, who was smiling up at him from her play gym.
"Good morning Perce." Paul replied."How's Annabeth and the others? Are you guys meeting up today?"
"They're doing ok, I guess. They're still sad about Jason......... We're going to Camp tomorrow to pack our stuff. So we won't be meeting today.
Paul nodded and continued to eat. Percy played with Estelle and Sally sat on the couch, writing her new book, all of them smiling.
Percy didn't know it then, but it'll be a long time before he could see them that happy again
A few hours later, after he ate some lunch, as Percy was polishing riptide to take his mind off things, he got a call on Sally's phone from an unknown number.
Puzzled, since he received very few phone calls, he took the phone call. It was Annabeth. She was panting and gasping for breath, as if she had run a few miles.
Percy knew his girlfriend enough to know that she was in trouble. Besides, she was at home. There could've been a monster attack.
"Percy. Thank goodness you took the phone." Annabeth said in a hurry, "Camp's in danger. The labyrinth opened again and our defenses are broken."
Percy didn't listen for long. Not questioning her location, since she was supposed to be at home, he quickly hung up the phone and started putting on his clothes. Running out of the house, he quickly told Sally and Paul what happened.
Sally hugged and blessed him, saying," Come back soon, baby. Be careful." Paul gave him a pat on the back.
Percy hurried into his car and started the engine. Driving way, over the speed limit, he didn't have time to think about the police as he raced to his second home, Camp Half Blood.
