"Jai," I look at him. "What has happened to you?" He bites his lip and eyes my nose ring.
"I remember when you got this thing," he pokes at the little diamond stud. "Your reaction when they stuck the needle through your nose was priceless. You held both mine and Luke's hand but stared into my eyes the whole time." Then he moves the left side of my hair behind my ear and says,
"Right after you and Luke had your second fight and you came crying to me and said you wanted to get your cartilage pierced, I took you and held you while they put the hole into the top of your ear. After we went on a drive and you cried about how mean Luke was and then you passed out in my car and I had to carry you to my sketchy little apartment where you asked me to stay and cuddle with you." I could feel my eyes tearing. He looks down from my eyes, down my chest past my boobs and stops at my stomach. He lifts the dirty pig sweatshirt a little bit and smiles, revealing my belly button ring. "A: this is my sweatshirt,"
"It smells like you." I blush.
"Do you like the way I smell or something?"
"It's hard to explain."
"Please." He motions his hands as to say the rest : 'I have all night'.
"It's exotic to me. Your smell I mean."
"So I smell bad?" He jokes.
"No of coarse not you smell amazing. I can get high off of your smell. Everything about you is perfect in my eyes."
"I see."
"You do?"
"You left one of your pillows at my house after the final fight and I've slept with it ever since."
"You have?"
"It's not creepy is it?!" He exclaims.
"Not at all! It's sweet." I say. My heart is beating 1000 miles an hour and I feel as though it will jump out of my chest any minute now. He looks back down at my third and final piercing, other than my ears. "When you got this we were visiting Australia as a family with mum. After moving to Canada we really hadn't gone anywhere and felt like seeing home again. One day when Luke got sh*tfaced you guys got in a fight and you ran to my hotel room and said you wanted another piercing. I said 'are you sure? Where?' And you pointed at your stomach so I took you. I held your hand while they stuck the needle through your stomach and you cried. Not of physical pain but emotional. After that trip you and Luke had one more fight and called it quits. That's the last time I have felt so alive. Being with you."
