Renji Yomo x Fem!Reader

Not sorry for the year long hiatus. A lot has been going on this past year and a half. All good things, thankfully. Enjoy I guess? Its going to be fairly short.

You and Renji sat across from each other at the kitchen table, drinking coffee. He was reading a novel about god-knows-what while you skimmed through the news articles on your laptop.

It had been a while since you and Renji did anything together. You had been caught up with work, and he had been busy with Anteiku and what-not. So, just sitting together, basking in each others presence was kind of a breath of fresh air.

"So," you started to ask him. He looked up from his book. "How are things at Anteiku," you asked, just to hear him speak.

"Like usual. Ken is getting slightly better with training. What about you?"

"Same," you took a sip of your hot beverage. "Its slow, but its not bad."

Renji hummed in response, also drinking his coffee. A silence formed between the both of you. It was soothing, yet torturous. You appreciated his presence and loved every second being with him. Yet, you wanted to do more with him.

Years of being together, yet neither of you could speak to each other without being awkward.

"Is this how you imagined us?" you abruptly asked, kind of regretting it. Renji looked up again, somewhat shocked under his cool appearance.

"Like, we've been together for such a long time, yet we're acting like we're being forced to be here."

He shook his head, not responding much. Renji closed and set down his book, then shut your laptop. He walked around the table to your area before picking you up from your seat, bridal style.

To your surprise, he carried you to your shared bedroom and set you down on your side of the bed. You watched as he went to his side of the bed and wrapped his strong arms around your figure.

Renji released the blankets from underneath the both of you, and pulled it over until you were both encased in a fluffy, warm blanket. He kissed your forehead a couple of times. You wrapped your arms around his torso and started kissing his chest.

"I love you," he whispered to you.

"I love you, too."
