QWTA: What was the weirdest dream you've had?

Sighing in content as I chewed the last of my pancake. The dishes clanked together as I placed them in the sink, letting the water rush out of the tap absentmindedly. I reached for the sponge and pumped some soap into it and started to wash the dishes as I stared out the kitchen window and down onto the streets below me. After washing the last steak knife, I dried my hand on a kitchen towel looked around the room. There were not many chores for me to do today. I started pacing around the room, unable to contain the anxious energy I had.

I reached into my pocket and held the useless device in my hands. I rolled my eyes at the useless clump of metal, the screen shattered. This was the only evidence left of my emotional outburst that night. All the shredded pieces of paper were thrown down the rubbish bin in the heat of my anger.

"I guess it is time for me to purchase a new phone..." I said talking to no one in particular. I walked to my room and put on a simple outside of grey joggers, a white tee, and a big fuzzy sweater over to protect myself from the brutal Autumn wind, and proceeded on with my morning routine before leaving the house. Locking the front door behind me and checking multiple times that it was locked, once satisfied, I made my way to the shopping mall which was within walking distance.

I hunched over and shoved my hands deep in my pockets for warmth and started my trek to the mall. As the cold wind blew into my ears, I cursed myself for the umpteenth time.

"Stupid idiot, why didn't you learn how to drive when you had the chance to?" I muttered under my breath. Pursing my lips in frustration, the answer dawned on me. I knew why. It was because I never had to learn how to. Elijah was always there to drive me places. It was his way of showing me affection. Feeling the all too familiar tightening in my throat, I blinked rapidly, willing my eyes to stay dry. I will not cry today. A matra I often found myself repeating.

"Hi, are you looking for a phone?" The bubbly sales assistant asked.

I nodded my head in response and saw a bright smile break across her face.

"Great!" She exclaimed.

"Is there a particular model you prefer or is anything fine with you?"

"Erm, I guess, anything is fine with me?" I had meant to say that in a matter of fact way but with my nerves bubbling, I ended the sentence with the voice on a slightly higher octave making it sound like a question. It had been some time since I had interacted with anyone.

Luckily for me, she did not seem to find me weird.

"Got it, okay so here are my recommendations..." She said as she steered me towards the direction of Apple products.

I left the store with a brand new phone and felt slightly exhausted. That lady sure had a lot of energy.

I hunched my back slightly, shoved my hands into my pockets and headed straight to the cafe where Lucas was working at.

Not that I wanted to see him or anything. I reasoned with myself.

As the cafe came into view, my heart beat faster and faster.

This is stupid.

He might not even be there.

We just saw each other this morning.

But it seemed as though my body had already made the decision for me because before I knew it, I was standing in front of the counter and lo and behold, Lucas was not there.

"Hi, how can I help you?"

"Uhm.. uhh..." I stammered, panicking as the cute barista, but not as cute as Lucas looked at me expectantly.

My eyes took a quick glance around the cafe hoping to find the mop of messy brown hair belonging to the boy that I wanted to see.

My heart chipped a little in disappointment as I stared at the cafe menu despondently, no longer in the mood to drink anything anymore.

"I... uh... Never mind." I said as I turned my body 180 degrees.

See! This was a horrible decision.

"Willow?" I spun my body around and there he was.

Seeing him felt like a breath of fresh air on a hot summer day.

But only because he was the only one I recognised in the crowd of strangers in this cafe.

"Hi... Lucas."

"Are you heading home?" he asked.

I nodded my head and scuffled my shoe awkwardly against the floor.

"Well, what a coincidence. My shift just ended. Let's leave together."

A small smile flashed across my face as my heart pounded.

Gosh. It was so easy with him.

"Just uhh... Give me a second, I'll go grab my things real quick."

Again, I nodded my head at him and pointed towards the glass door of the cafe, indicating that I would wait for him there instead.

I pushed open the cafe doors, hearing the jingle of the bells and stood outside the cafe entrance waiting for him to come out.

I looked around the vicinity and decided that today, was a good day.

Not because of him or anything...

Hey... I know it has been a while since I updated but better late than never? This chapter truly proved as a writer's block for me. It was just a filler chapter for the next chapter and I had no idea how to make the word count limit that I had set for myself. But I'm so glad that this is done and over with because whew... I'm so glad to be moving on to the next few chapters where the story would actually progress and not remain so stagnant.

Anyways, hope you guys like this chapter.

Please don't be a silent reader, leave a comment in my QWTA or a comment about this chapter about how I can father improve it at the end of this chapter. Remember to smash that little star because it truly motivates me so so much!

Thank you and happy reading!

XoXo,

Paris
