It wasn't easy being the only one to take care of your siblings, it wasn't easy at all.

April sat in the passenger seat of the police car, her sisters at the back and an officer in the drivers seat. Why? You'll soon find out.

Well, April and her sisters; Jane, Anna and Mae, used to live with their parents before a tragic accident happened and they lost their lives in a car crash.

April was devastated when
she heard the news this morning and having no relatives from both sides of the parents, they could only go to an orphanage, which is where they were going to be till someone adopts them.

April laughed at the thought of that, resulting in strange looks from the cop. No one was going to take her sisters from her and she would make sure of that.

Pulling into the driveway of the orphanage, April got out of the car and looked at the building in front of her. It was nothing short of HUGE. It was coated in grey paint with windows covering the front and sides of the building.

'A gloomy looking structure indeed' April thought to herself.

"It looks haunted" Anna spoke.

The police officer and April shared a look, then laughed a little bit. He was only a few years older than April, possibly 2 or 3 years older. Light brown sparkly eyes, blonde hair and a fit body. She didn't know his name, she wouldn't ask, she thought it was weird.

"It probably is" Mae said, causing April to smile at the thought of Anna's petrified face.

"Shall we?" Police officer asked, brushing over April's features. She smiles and walked towards the door, leaving him staring from behind.

He finally catches up with her, the three other girls behind them, and rings the doorbell.

There was an oddly eerie sound to it, giving it a creepy vibe.

The door opened and a woman probably in her late 40's stood there. She had deep blue eyes that lost its sparkle and platinum blonde hair that was pulled into a tight bun and a huge smile on her partially wrinkly face.

"Welcome to Greenfield orphanage, my name is Tanya, the owner of this establishment, we've been waiting for you" she said.

April scoffed and rolled her eyes, arms folded. "You say it like it's an amusement park".

Tanya scowled at the red haired girl and turned back to face the cop.

"Come in, come in"

They all walked in, all of them admiring the house like it was a work of art. The walls were painted a gold color with hardwood tiles. The furniture was fairly old and the kitchen was outdated.

"This is the living room" Tanya said, taking a spin around the room.

"And that's the kitchen" she pointed. "The house has 3 floors, an attic and a basement, enough rooms to house 50 kids and there's a garden out back if any of you are interested".

"How many kids would you say are here exactly". Mae asked from behind them.

"Well, some of them were recently adopted and some just turned 18, so we're left with 25 plus the four of y'all" Tanya said. "Follow me".

Mae, Anna, April and Jane followed the blonde haired woman while the police officer stayed back and positioned himself on a chair.

April no longer felt his body heat and turned back to see him on his phone.

"What are you doing" she asked, brow arched.

"What does it look like?" He said in a 'duh' tone.

April rolled her eyes.
"I mean, why aren't you with us"

"Are you scared little girl? Should I go get your teddy" he stood up, smirking.

April glowered at him.
"You're the police officer in charge of us, so you're supposed to watch us, this house gives us the creeps and we don't wanna be here, but it's not like we have a choice, do we? So why don't you just do your job properly and save us all the trouble, hmm?" She  shouted. She was already tired of him.

He smirked and bent down to her ear level.
"You know, you look hot when you're angry" he whispered.

April froze, a deep red glazing her cheeks. He laughed and wrapped an arm around her neck as they walked.

She huffed, pushing his arm away and followed Tanya said voice.

"Come on princess"

April gushed inwardly at the name. She always did that when boys called her pet names like that, no matter how stupid or jerky they were.

She stopped walking as soon as she saw Tanya and her sisters in front of her.

"So all I need now are your ages and I'll show you to your rooms" Tanya said, smiling.

"Um, Mae is 14, Jane is 11, Anna is 8 and I'm 17" April said, looking Tanya in the eye.

"Good, I'll show to your room"

They walked a little further before stopping at another hallway. Tanya opened a door to reveal a big room, four beds and a closet.

"This is your room, y'all have to share, is that okay?" She asked, a sincere look on her face.

"Yeah, it's perfect" April said, a large smile on her face.

"I'll go get the bags" the cop said.

"I'll come with" April smiled.

They both walked in a peaceful silence before reaching the cop car. He opened the trunk and pulled out the first bag.

April stared at him as he carried h the heavy bags. His biceps bulged, veins popping, she drooled.

Nope
Nope
Nope
She wouldn't drool over him, he was stupid and he might be a pervert for all she knew.

"Like what you see" he smirked at the newly flustered girl.

"I-i-i wasn't staring, y-you were staring" she blurted out and mentally face palmed.

He laughed and rose his hands in mock surrender before taking the bags inside, leaving the red-headed girl outside.
