Chapter 6
I was walking down my driveway to an empty home with new happy people who would be moving in soon. My L.L Bean backpack was full with everything we learned in the first semester at North Boston High School. I remembered freshman year clearly as it was yesterday, sitting at the lunch table with my friends, pointing out all of the cute upperclassmen that walked by, going to wildcat football games, and remembering how excited I was that I was going to be here until graduation with the best friends I could have.
But now, I was walking to a new chapter of my life on my way to Willow Falls, Texas. Lauren and Brett were walking with me, and the last few minutes on the way home, I stopped talking, while I was remembering having so many memories in this house. My eighth birthday party and the super bowl every year were the memories that stood out the most to me.
The big vanguard moving truck was in our driveway packing up all of our memories up and shipping them to Texas. Yesterday, Hannah had about ten girls over for a going away party so her good-byes were already over with. She was in the front seat of the Volvo listening to her iPod blocking out the sounds of the movers locking up the back of the truck with their cigarettes in their hands, who had probably gone through an entire pack today.
So this was really it. I didn't think it would be this hard to say good-bye. I heard my mom talking to the mover guy, Sam.
"We will be on our way soon. Just follow us and you have directions if we get split up. Thanks again guys." My mom said.
"Yes ma'am, you're welcome ma'am," Sam replied.
"Alexis, baby, we have to get going soon," my mom said.
"I-I know." I said trying to hold back tears.
"Bye Lexis," Brett said, looking like he was going to cry. I hugged him crying into his flannel shirt.
'Bye Brett, we'll keep in touch." I sniffled out.
Next, it was Lauren's turn. "Good-bye best friend for life," Lauren said. Her makeup smearing down her face and her tears were rolling down her face as well. Now, I was bawling and shaking. I was so sad. We held each other close for a long time.
"Don't worry I will visit over spring break, remember?" Lauren whispered in my ear.
"Yeah. I will count down the days until that and I will call and text often." I sobbed out whispering it back to her.
"Love you best friend and I will miss you."
"I love you too!" I said. Now we were both shaking in the January weather in the North East.
After a few more minutes of hugs and memories I got into the back seat of the car next to the suitcases of our clothes.
Brett and Lauren were awkwardly standing next to each other, while me, inside the car window was shaking.
Hannah's hand came back and she held it out. We squeezed each others hands and I prayed for a god experience in the South.
My mom started the car and I rolled down the window and waved to Brett and Lauren. We drove out of the driveways and on our way to our new life. All three of us were being quiet and crying softly. I took out my iPhone, put in my headphones and listened to music for most of the ride out of Boston.
When we passed my old school, my phone vibrated. I looked down at the screen and saw it was a new text from Lauren. It read: MISS U ALREADY. TEXT WHEN YOU GET THERE! <3
