We sat in complete silence, afraid to speak. Her silence was the loudest noise.
Finally, she turned to me, eyes sparkling with almost-tears.
"Where did you live, afterwards?"
"I moved here, to New York City, because some of my cousins live here. I decided to go to college, and now here I am."
She wrapped her arms around his waist, laying her head on his chest.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." She said softly.
He rested his chin on her head.
"I guess too much love can kill you.""That's what makes love so interesting. We all strive to love someone, something. Even if it is in one day. We are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day."
A breath of silence followed and she cocked her head up, looking at him.
"You are the most interesting girl I've ever met." He breathed, lost in her eyes.
Her eyes... They were pure stars.
She smiled, and his chest heaved.
He found love in her smile."I like to think that I am." She said, resting her head against his chest again. They laid there, just holding onto each other like they were each others life lines. And he didn't mind one bit.
Steven's keys jingled when he slid the key into his apartment door, turning it and opening the door. He flipped the light switch, illuminating the space with the cozy, warm light. He walked to his bedroom and slipped on a t-shirt and shorts.
He lay there, lost in thought. Thinking about Lilliana. You could see the sunshine threaded in her fingertips. She was a beautiful soul. Or what about the dragonflies that danced inside her eyes?
All he could think about was how much he liked her. Maybe a little too much.
