I felt my side laced with a shooting pain.
I tried to move and found that I was laying down— shit, why was I laying down?
Where was I?
I force my heavy eyelids open, and wait for the blur in my vision to fade.
I look around and see that I am laying in a bed.
Definitely not my bed.
My body was still fighting to awaken so I tried my best to turn my head to find a window.
I look outside and see that it is still night, but I could have been asleep for days.
I started to panic, my parents were going to kill me.
I try to ignore the shooting pain in my side and sit up.
My bones groaned awake in the sudden movement.
"Be careful I just stitched you up," she heard a Guttural voice say.
I turned and found the male she saw earlier sitting on a chair next to the bed.
He was a high fae for sure, with those claws and that power radiating off of him, he could have almost been classified as a high lord.
"What am I doing here?" I ask moving away from him.
"I brought you to a cottage, to see your wound," he said, brows scrunching together.
I quickly pulled up my shirt just enough to see that my wound had been sewed shut, and the blood had been cleaned off.
"Why didn't you use magic?" I ask, wondering why he didn't use all that power he surely had.
"My father has wards that can sense and the powers of spring being used, so I had to fix you the old fashioned way," he looked to where her wound was under her shirt.
"What happened?" He added, gently, looking into her eyes and she almost melted.
They were the most ethereal shade of jade green. They looked exactly like the leaves and grass of spring, ever so tempting to lay for a while or voice your deepest secrets, which his eyes could likely make her do.
"Some mortals in your court shot at me," I said, telling him the truth.
"I knew humans hated us but I never thought..."
He trailed off looking down and I finished for him.
"That they would attack us. I didn't either," I said, tracking all the shades of blond in his short ruffled hair.
"You're from night court," he said with a hint of anger, "why are you here?"
I looked at him and gave him a sinister smile.
Why do you think I'm here?
I asked directly into his mind.
"Stop doing that," he said, standing up from his chair and rubbing his temples.
"Why did you bring me here?" I asked just now realizing how tall he was, likely almost a foot taller than me.
"I told you I just wanted to heal you," he looked down at me.
I stood up on the bed now looking down on him and said, "why? Who are you?"
I grabbed his mind again, stroking it with a claw.
He shut his eyes tight and said, "ok, ok, I'm Tamlin."
She immediately let go of his mind and backed away and got off of the bed so now there was something between them.
"Tamlin as in the third son of spring court?" I asked, my heart beating fast.
He nodded and asked with lethal calm, "did you come here to kill me or my people?"
I quickly shook my head, "no, I didn't intend to inflict harm on anyone."
"Then why are you here?" He pressed and I took a step back at the power in his voice.
Yes, he was most definitely the son of a high lord.
I had to be careful. I didn't know him. He was a son of an enemy court, but he had helped me even though he knew she was from night court.
"I am Luna," I said and his eyes widened.
He was honest with me, so I would be honest with him.
"The high lord of the night court's daughter," he said, taking a step back.
I nodded and he started laughing.
"What?" I asked, annoyed, placing my hands on my hips.
"It's just— I thought you'd be scarier," he smiled.
Cauldron, he had a pretty smile.
I was still irritated though.
"Did you think I looked like an attor or something," I asked with a bite in my voice.
He shivered at the mention of an attor, then covered it up with a mask of blankness.
"No, I didn't think you looked like an attor," he said and I smiled.
"I don't like attors, they are just oversized bats," I crossed my arms.
"And what does that make you?" a hint of a smile playing at his lips.
I scoffed, "I am part Illyrian, the only bat-like part of my body is my wings, unlike an attor I am not a creator out of someone's nightmares."
"No, you certainly are not," He said quietly.
Did he just compliment me or insult me? I couldn't tell.
"Why are you here?" He repeated.
I didn't know if I should just tell him the truth or not, but I couldn't hide anything from those green eyes.
"I just wanted to see the spring court," I admitted and he smiled.
"You just wanted to see the spring court?" He repeated and I nodded sheepishly.
"And you're the high lord of the night court's daughter?" He asked and I nodded, again.
He started laughing again and I realized how contagious it was. I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from joining in his laughter.
"Sorry," He said through laughs, "it's just my father got mad at me the other night for making pancakes, I can't imagine how infuriated he would be to know that I am talking to the high lord of the night court's daughter."
Yeah, If my father knew I was talking to Tamlin right now he would likely skin me alive.
"Well it's still night, I can show you around if you promise not to kill me," he ran his tanned fingers through his hair.
I was taken back by the blatant offer. He would really show me around?
"Let's make a deal," I said, "you don't bring harm to me or my people and I will do the same for you."
I walked over to where he was standing and held out my hand.
He took it and said, "deal."
Then little star tattoos appear all over our fingers, three stars per finger.
I giggled at his petrified face.
"My father is going to kill me," he said, trying to rub off the tattoo.
"Sorry," I said, "I forgot to tell you, in night court we like to ink our deals."
I loved the black stars on his tanned skin, I marked him, he was mine.

He still is.
I just wish he knew I was his.
