July 23rd

The day of.

I woke up to the sound of birds and sizzling eggs. I was excited for the day to start and for Draco and I to do whatever came to mind. I got out of bed and rubbed the area where my dagger was from the growing pain because I was wearing it so much. I walked into the kitchen to say good morning to Draco but as always he beat me to it.

"Good morning, love." He said with a wide smile on his face.

"How is it every time I try to say good morning before you, you beat me to it?" I paused looking out the kitchen window at the morning air. "And good morning to you too."

"What can I say, it's a gift." Draco said in a mocking voice.

"We should eat breakfast inside today. We haven't used the table all summer." I recommended.

"Sounds good to me. I think it's a little cold outside today anyways."

The table was close to a window so we could still see outside. As we sat down to eat, we talked about what we would spend the day doing. That was until I saw five big spots of smoke fly into the woods near our cottage. I knew as soon as I saw the clouds of smoke they were death eaters.

"Draco, come to the back of the cottage with me towards the back door right now." I said in a panicked tone.

"Why? What's wrong?"

"They're here." I said as I rushed up from my chair.

Draco's face went pale and I grabbed his hand. "Whatever you do Draco, do not let go of my hand unless I tell you to."

We went to a corner of the cottage closest to the back door and waited till we saw death eaters surrounding us. It didn't take them much time before they kicked open the front door. "Don't say a word. If they come near us, don't move." I whispered.

I was never good at concealment but I never had good motivation. Now the person I cared about most was in the hands of my gift and that was the biggest amount of motivation I could have had. There were three death eaters searching the house and two surrounding it. I could feel myself getting weak and looked at Draco with a look he understood. Tread quietly.

I opened the door and while still holding Draco's hand to conceal us, we walked right past a death eater without him seeing us. Draco's expression on his face blew up in shock as he had no idea how they didn't see us.

We got into the woods and I let go of his hand. I was weak but if I needed to I could conceal us again. We were moving between trees as quietly as we could trying to get away from the cottage. That was until I stepped on a fallen branch. The two death eaters looked directly at Draco and I. That's when we knew we couldn't hide anymore. "Just run!" I screamed at Draco. We both took off into the woods running purely on adrenaline. Draco was deeper in the woods than me but I could still see him. We were passing trees at extreme speed while dodging the curses that were being thrown at us.

"KEEP GOING!" I shouted to Draco as I saw him getting tired. He kept up his speed and just as I looked back I saw a Cruciatus Curse flying towards me. I tried to dodge it but it hit me and I fell to the ground screaming in pain.

"Leave me, just keep running!" I yelled to Draco as I saw him start to turn around for me. He knew I was serious and turned around to run deeper into the woods. After a few agonizing minutes the death eater finally stopped the curse and grabbed me by my arm with their wand to my neck signaling that if I tried to get away they would kill me.

And just like that I saw Draco get stunned. "NO!" I wailed as I saw the death eater pick him up and walk him towards me with their wand to his neck as well.
