Irene's POV
I look at Tom, with his curved ice blue wings. And notice how everyone has differently shaped wings with versatile colors. The sky looks like it's filled with flying rainbows as everyone flaps their wings with utmost grace. Suddenly every problem vanishes, and there's only serendipity. Like the sky was rejoicing for being decorated with so many colors, it was glowing as if it craved for these colors, the sparkles! Even though my stomach was in pain and there were bruises over my body, I felt alive! I felt happy. I closed my eyes letting the cold wind brush through my face, leaving a taint of memory behind, a feeling that I will never forget.
But, the wind suddenly starts whispering things, though, cruel, bitter things. I open my eyes and see the colors fading slowly. I twitch my eyebrows in confusion and look at Arriane to see her being determined. She too senses danger. I look around as the clouds turn a gray shade, signaling... "They are here," Arriane whispers, completing my sentence. The thunder exceeds and becomes louder, and if it weren't the color of their wings, I would have lost them amidst the growing mist. A sudden moment beside us makes Arriane lose her balance a bit, but she manages to regain it. I squint my eyes in fear, clutching tightly to Arriane. Although, her wince makes me open my eyes and I see blood dripping from her arms and a huge cut there. I am sure it will heal probably, but to my surprise, the wound turns green. "Will it kill you?" "NO! BUT IT WILL TAKE LONGER TO HEAL AND HURT LIKE A BITCH." I relax listening to her. A black ball-like thing hovers around us and as I try to focus on it, I see a huge ugly, well-built man with a scar on his face and tattoo all over his chest and body. He has black eyes and his hair is braided in a single tail. I feel disgusted looking at his crooked teeth and ugly face, but my disgusts turns into concern as I see him holding a silver blade that probably had Arriane's blood on it. I cannot let her get hurt anymore. She's helping me! She's a nice person. He moves towards attacking Arriane, but I cover my hand around her arm, which leads to a sharp pain through my right arm and a smooth cut that shall leave a scar, apparently. His face instead of getting red with fury becomes happy? I look ahead to see more black balls around every angel. But, they all look confused as they hover in mid air, without following anyone, now!
"You fool!" "They can't see you, but now you alarmed them!" "I am-" "SHU!" He revolves around me and then again comes back at us, but falls apart as Arriane flaps her wing at the creature. Wild! I smirk at Arriane as she winks at me. I wonder why she didn't do it before. And soon enough, I get my answer.
A similar group of black balls follows us as if we are some magnet to which they are attracted to like needles. Now is a good time to panic, I suppose.
"Arriane, what do we do?" "WE RUN!" And with that, we whoosh across the sky like a jet, I look back, trying my best to keep my eyes open and catch a glance of everyone else, but the harsh wind blocks my vision. So all I notice is colorful lines across the sky, kind of reminding me of The Powerpuff Girls. I smile and close my eyes. In a normal situation, I would enjoy flying through the sky, paving my way through these clouds with angels carrying me and the cold breeze soothing my soul and creating a sensation of chills at the same time, normally... I would enjoy this moment, but at this point, all I wish is to go back home to my family where my dad would set up the table with me, and mum and Tyler would talk about how dad could have made the blueberry pie in a better way. I miss the warmth of my family. MY FAMILY! I open my eyes in horror. Are they safe? Would they be abducted? I thought of asking Ariane, but her bleeding arm became worst and the shooting pain in my arm made it difficult for me to speak as well. I could feel my mouth getting dry, and my vision gets blurry. "DO NOT FALL ASLEEP." Arriane orders stretching on every word and I simply nod, trying my best to oblige.I try my level best to not doze off and keep shaking my head to forget the pain shooting up and down my arm. I also feel relieved, for I feel something, knowing that I am not paralyzed yet. Slowly, the fog lightens, and the gray air vanishes, showing a glimpse of lights. As we move closer to the ground, my vision became clear and, I noticed a big castle-like structure in the middle of a huge green ground, acres big, giving a vibe of royalty. I awe at the site as Arriane whispers, "Welcome Home." I smile as I catch a peek at my parents sitting on a table along with other people from one of the windows. Relieve to know they are safe, here, with me along with my friends, and now the wounds don't hurt as bad, instead, I feel at peace, knowing I am at a stable place. In a swift but smooth movement, Arriane lands me on the ground. I wince a bit but eye at her with concern. Her wound is now a bit small and a lot more healed than before. The blood has stopped, but the crack still remains, with a bluish/greenish color around the wound. "Don't worry, it will be fine in some time." She gives me a pat on my shoulder and I nod. "But your wound needs first aid." "Yeah... it does." Before we could talk further, many wings flatter around us signaling everyone's here. My first glance goes towards Tyler, he is awake and clearly baffled, Beth rushes over to him to hug him, but his expression remains tensed. He glances over the ground and looks at me, and finally eases into Beth's arms once I give him a smile. Candice and Sam, too are awake and safe and they rush to each other, looking for some assurance in this demented place. I smile. I look up and see the black ugly ghosts crumble in the sky and if it weren't for Harry Potter, I would have never understood this.
"It's an enchanted spell, preventing them from trespassing here."
"I saw Harry Potter too, dude. I got it!"
She chuckles and moves towards helping other angels. I inspect my surroundings and realise that few angels have scratches, almost all of them healed. However, I notice a big scratch on Tom's hand, which hasn't healed completely. I can't even imagine how deep the cut would be. I search for Chris restlessly but breathe in relief, once I see him helping his friend. He doesn't have any cuts and that somehow makes me feel better. "We need to take you up, Irene. Come on. It's turning purple now, the poison is spreading!" "I don't want a mutilated hand!" I almost screech. "You won't have one, but it needs to be cured." I wonder, why can't I heal myself like the others? "Rene!" I don't have to think twice about who it could be. Only Stefan calls me this. He calls my name and rushes to my side, "Why is it turning purple? It's dangerous!" "Back off. I am fine." I don't want his help for sure. "For a change, he is right Irene," Arriane says. Before I could argue, Chris sprints towards me and cradles my arm cautiously as if I were some delicate glass. I chuckle at his antics. "I won't die, chill." His head shoots up at me with blue eyes. "Will I?" I ask in bewilderment. "Baby, don't talk, don't ask for once. Please, let us do our thing." He literally pleads. "But, I feel fine." "Because I gave you an antidote, while you were asleep. Which can wear off anytime now." Wow, and here I thought I didn't sleep at all. "What happens if it wears off?" "NO QUESTIONS." Chris almost roars while a red tear falls through his eye, making everyone gasp. I have never seen him cry. "Chris-" I take his face in my hands and wipe his eyes with my one hand. "I will do whatever, you'll say. I promise. Remember, I said... no one other than you can keep me safe."
I feel my legs becoming jelly as I wobble and try to stand, but fall weak. Now, this cannot be Chris's effect, so I assume the anti-dote is wearing off.
"HURRY! TO THE HELP ROOM." In a split second, Chris pulls me in his arms and carries me to the room. I feel dizzy, due to this sudden movement and the pain as well.
He lands me on the bed, and a woman appears beside me in a sprint motion. She is obviously a doctor.
She removes something from her blue bag and my eyes start getting heavy, so I close it.
"Stay awake, please."
"Hey, hey... hold on. Love, please don't close your eyes, I am here look." Chris tries to interact, but I feel too tired to talk. I open my eyes though, knowing how desperate he is. He pats my cheek and rubs my other hand. "I-" "Shh, don't. It's okay."
I see the doctor prepare the needle and inject something, but I don't feel a thing.
"This might sting a bit in 5-10 minutes. If it doesn't, then let me know, okay?" I nod. I've taken a supernatural punch, survived fire and I've been a constantly getting damaged since a week, she seriously thinks I can't manage a some pain? I chuckle, to which I get several raised eyebrows and a disappointed look from Chris.
Then, she looks after a scratch on my head and applies first aid, followed by my stomach. She gasps a bit looking at my stomach, and I wish I could giggle at her expression. She asks Stefan to hold the ice pack on my wound, but seeing me shift uncomfortably, Arriane interrupts, holding it on my bruise. I mentally sigh in relief. She orders the helper to bring something and within two seconds, she returns with a yellow bowl. She asks Arriane to move, as she settles herself beside me and then applies some purple paste on my wound. It stings a bit, but I don't feel much as my whole right part seems to be numb. Chris peeks at what the doctor is doing and I blush, not in a good way to realize he just saw my stomach. I hide in his arms again out of embarrassment. "Please stop looking, Chris... I feel embarrassed." He hears my thoughts and looks at me with a stunned expression and retrieves his gaze back at me. Don't get me wrong, if I had a sexy stomach, I would happily show off. But the fact that I wear baggy clothes and hate the logic of crop tops explains how insecure I am of my stomach.Once the doctor is done with her work, she settles herself in the adjoining chair and smiles understanding what happened and Arriane too coughs to tease Chris. However, she gets a good sharp glare in return from Chris. Stefan... has no expressions, I ain't surprised. "Call me if you need anything, I am looking after other injured ones." Doctor leaves and Arriane too excuses herself, leaving Stefan, Chris, and me in one room. NOT AWKWARD AT ALL. I sigh. I close my eyes to give myself some rest as Chris kisses my hair warmly.
I shot my eyes open as I feel shooting pain in my torso and my arm! GODDAMN. IT DOES HURT SO BAD.
I groan in pain and my body feels on fire. It stings so bad. As if a thousand needles are being poked on various parts of my arm and leg. "Ugh." I cry in pain. "It's okay, shh. It will be fine." I FEEL LIKE PUNCHING THIS GUY. I LOOK AT HIM IN RAGE, EXPECTING HIM TO UNDERSTAND HOW BAD THIS HURTS AND HIS 'IT WILL BE FINE DOESN'T HELP MUCH! As if understanding my thoughts, he holds on to me like I am a precious little baby and kisses my forehead. 'Much better!' I say in my mind, knowing he will hear it. I drift off to sleep again, hoping it'll help me forget this awful pain.I wake up and realize an hour has passed, but the pain still pertains.
"There is no need to worry, she's out of danger. The pain will subside in an hour." AN HOUR? IS SHE SERIOUS? I look at Chris with pleading eyes, but his worried ones, calm me down a bit. I can't show him my pain, he'll worry more. I tightly clutch the bedsheet and shut my eyes to avoid looking at him. "Don't pretend. It's okay." I melt instantly as he shifts beside me and covers me in a duvet, adjusting himself in it as well. I find solace as I bury my face in his arms.
"But she will take time to heal. Any motion might pain her more, so it is important to ensure that she doesn't leave her bed, unless extremely important and for doing her usual business." I cringe at her last word, what is 'business'. She could have easily used an alternative. Her dumb-supernatural-wit literally is worst than Peter from our class. And trust me, even though he's excellent in dance and drama, with a model-like face, he still lacks common sense. Once during a class when Mrs. Jones asked him about the twin towers, this is what he said... "I am sure they are someone on the planet, but I will have to google the location. Although, I have a building named twin tower a few blocks down the lane. Does that count?" We first thought, he was doing this to trouble Mrs. Jones, but it turned out that he really didn't know. I laugh at the memory. But as I do, a part of my stomach hurts, reminding me that I have a bruised stomach and how far I've come till now. If it weren't for Peter, I would have forgotten about it probably, for there are things of greater importance on my plate right now. I need to know how did Chris lose his wings and figure out a better explanation for Tyler, Sam, and Candice. I am also intrigued to know more about 'them' that Chris was referring to. Chris stiffens beside me, he must have read my thought.
"Rest for now, please. You can go all Hermoine Granger tomorrow, I swear I won't stop you." I giggle at his reference but agree nonetheless.
As I feel him patting my head slowly, I drift to sleep, knowing this world might not be the same tomorrow, and I might be the only one who could maintain consistency in this on-the-edge world.Hello guys,
