The reception for our couple dance was quite good. Anton decided to use the choreography as part of the wedding procession for any performance in a wedding party. I was very happy with his decision because it was the only moment in real life that I could be close to Viona.
Sometimes, Andre also got the chance to couple up with Viona for the choreography, in case if I couldn't perform that day but most of the time, I was the one chosen to take the lead. Andre didn't seem to mind about this. He even patted on my back, saying good luck before each of our performances. It was weird but I was glad because this meant that my friendship with Andre was still intact.
Fast forward several months and it was quite close to New Years Eve. For everyone, New Years Eve is supposed to be a happy yearly event but for me, it is quite the opposite.
30th December 2012.
My life in campus was about to end as I would graduate the next year. I though I wanted to experience something even better than the dance that I had ever performed with Viona. So, I tried my chance again with her and I texted her.
"Yo, how are you? New year is coming."
"Hi, I'm great, thanks for asking. Yeah, time flies really fast."
"How do you think about our club after all these times?"
"The club? It's nice of course. I think we work together really well. Why are you asking this?"
"Well, since I'll be graduating soon, Anton and the others will graduate as well. I thought, maybe you should become the next leader of the club."
"Wait a minute, leader? I don't think I'm fit for that position."
"No, in fact, I think you're going to do real good. You're the only one from all the juniors to have the most experiences anyway. Trust me, you are the one."
"You think so? I'll need some time to consider this."
"Yeah sure, just take your time. Well, off the topic, do you have any plans for tomorrow night?"
"Oh, the new years eve? Err.. yes. I'm having a barbeque with my family. The standard tradition at my house."
Damn, no chance again this time. Looks like luck was at my side yet at that time. I had no other choices so I just let it passed. We continued chatting and it was time to call it a day.
The last day of 2012. Anton decided to give us a break and the practice would continue directly the next day. Everyone was okay with it so I just spent my whole day at home.
3 hours before the countdown to 2013. I texted Viona to check on her. She said that she would be having a family barbeque since it was her family's tradition.
"Yo, busy preparing for the barbeque?"
"Oh hi. Yeah, everyone is busy now."
"Owh sorry to disturb you then. I'll just text you again later."
"No, don't worry about it. Why are you texting me again?"
"Nah, I just, you know, just wanna know how you're doing."
"Oh, I see. Well, the preparation is looking fine 'til now. It's going to be a nice, family barbeque."
We continued chatting but strangely at around 10 PM, she suddenly stopped replying my text. I thought she and her family might have started the barbeque so I just left my phone and went on to play some video games while waiting for her reply.
A few more minutes before the countdown and she had not replied me. She would probably be counting down the new year with her family, or at least that was what I thought it might be. After the countdown was over, exactly at 12, I texted her again.
"Happy new year Viona!!! I hope you'll be happy in this new year of 2013 and all wishes will come true!!"
No reply but I still waited and after 15 minutes passed, she finally replied me.
"Happy new year to you too!! Sorry I just replied, I left my phone in my room before the barbeque just now."
We continued chatting for a few more minutes and decided to end the chat since it was too late at night already and we were both really sleepy.
"See you tomorrow in the practice, good night~" I texted her and we went to sleep.
Things might not went as planned for me but at least I got to say happy new year to her. My first chat of 2013 and I felt delighted.
I should be, right?
