Parker checked his watch then turned away from the horror that was unfolding on the live feed. "Pull the plug." He ordered.
Outside the flames burned like a funeral pyre, a great pall of smoke darkening the landscape.
A trooper crossed to the console and grabbed the handle of the master breaker, cutting off the power supply to the link units. The tops of the units were yanked open by Olsen and Falco.
Ivory turned away abruptly. She didn't want to see Grace lying there, her eyes wide and empty.
Jake was handcuffed then pulled from his link unit and flung over a trooper's shoulder. "Get off!" Jake snarled, struggling against Wallen's tight grip.
"If you think you're going to put me in handcuffs all over a-fucking-gain you've got another thing coming." A woman said belligerently.
Ivory whipped around, her eyes wide. "Grace? I thought you were-"
"Jake pulled me out of the way." Grace explained, trying to elbow Falco in the jaw as he handcuffed her. "Get your fucking hands off me!"
Ivory did her best to push past Cheevers, trying to get to Grace.
"I don't think so Hill." Cheevers caught hold of Ivory's arms and yanked them behind her back, slapping another pair of handcuffs down over her wrists.
"What the hell is that for?" The dark haired woman demanded, stamping hard on Cheevers' foot.
"You little shit." Cheevers raised his hand and smacked Ivory hard across the face.
Ivory felt the skin on her cheek split open as the man's ring made contact with her face. "Oh not again." She said in exasperation as warm, wet blood began to dribble down the side of her face.
Norm who had also been handcuffed was dragged over to Ivory.
Falco picked Grace up bodily and slung her over his shoulder, depositing her beside Norm.
"Hit her again and I swear I'll kill you." Grace spat, kicking out at Cheevers.
The man took a step back, easily avoiding Grace's brown lace up boots. He waited until Wallen had come over, still clutching Jake, before he began to speak. "Now y'all are going to spend the night in a holding cell. You're all on the next available shuttle out of here and going back to Earth. None of you are ever going to work for the RDA again."
Ivory was huddled in the corner of the holding cell, throwing up into a bin that the woman who had found Jake's wheelchair had brought.
"Fuck my life." She breathed, staggering upright. Grace let Ivory's hair drop and sank back down onto the bench."Better?" Jake asked.
"Well, if one of those bastards comes back in here at least we've got something to dump on them." Ivory collapsed back down beside Grace, laying down as best as the bench would permit. Her face was pressed into Grace's lap, her cheek which was still sticky with blood felt hot against the redhead's thigh. She was exhausted, nauseous and dizzy but she refused to let herself slip into sleep. She had forced herself to stay awake the night before but as it began to approach their second evening in the cell it was getting harder and harder to keep herself awake.
