┏   ❝Who and what you   ┓

are can only be

determined by what

kind of person you

choose to be. And so,

I only ask you this,

Bellamy Ronan... what

┗   is it you choose?❞   ┛

so what's it about?

Bellamy Ronan was not reaped for the 69th annual Hunger Games. His name was not picked out among hundreds of slips of paper all contained in that horrid glass bowl. No, Bellamy was not supposed to be a tribute, not selected for the inevitable slaughter by the Capitol. So how did he end up here?

He volunteered.

He didn't even plan on doing it, didn't even realize that the words were coming out of his mouth until they'd already been spoken, sealing his fate. He isn't sure why. Stupidity. Fate. Selflessness. Bravery. Some may say all of the above. Either way, Bellamy is a standout tribute because of his choice, which can be a very bad thing when twenty-three other people are supposed to try to kill you.

And then there's his fellow District Nine tribute, Demetria Vorne, who thinks the entire ordeal was a ploy. She doesn't want anything to do with him at first. Good. One less heartbreak; getting attached is a one-way ticket to despair around here. But their influence on the Capitol may just be their winning ticket out of there, so they find themselves teaming up.

It's a silver lining. Bellamy has someone to live out his final days with. Bellamy has someone to live out his final days with.

personal notes:

— I have been reading Liv's work since 2014 when Instinct was still ongoing, and watching their work progress and flourish has been such a wonderful ride. They never fail to create such intricate stories with breathtaking plots and lovable characters. Basically, this is my love letter to Liv.

— Bellamy's perspective is such an interesting one to view the Games from. How he is perceived vs his actual thoughts is a cool juxtaposition. I'm a huge fan of the duality of man being explored in fics (especially Hunger Games ones, as readers of Radiance have seen with Ontari) and Liv does an excellent job of this. We, as the readers, know exactly what Bellamy is really like, but through other characters' actions and dialogue, it's revealed how they perceive him.

— She was kind enough to cameo Ontari a few times in brief mentions and I cry every single time I think about it. Since Bellamy is in the 69th Games, Ontari had won the year prior, so he mentions her as the most recent victor. I am so grateful <33333

— Demetria is an absolute treasure to this world and I love reading about her. Liv does an incredible job with fleshing out their characters! There's a reason why so many of her OCs are comfort characters of mine. They truly feel like real people. No stone is left unturned in terms of how they are fleshed out.

— The worldbuilding of District Nine is AMAZINGLY well-done. Liv even made a map for it, complete with names for the different sections. It inspired me to go more in-depth with my worldbuilding of unexplored aspects of Panem in Embers. The universe is already so developed, but the little details that Liv adds makes it even better. Her version of Nine is basically canon in my eyes.

— Be prepared to see more of Liv's stories in this book because I'm a iydiamartin groupie and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
